I don't think the dealers service departments really know how to handle the recall just yet. 2 weeks ago they told me they needed 7-10 days to do the hybrid fire recall repair. So I scheduled it for yesterday.

Dropped at 11 and ready by 6:30 the same day. Service director took over and explained. 999 out of 1,000 cars will pass he said. That last one is screwed. They can't release it and don't have parts to fix it. Happy 2023 when you get the truck back.

My 10 cents.

(Now know I always have said never trust what a dealer says so take it for what it's worth. )

Is that 1 out of 1000 a case of where the service department totally FUBARs it? Because there's nothing to inspect for fixing, it's the same procedure for all of the affected units. Just remove 4 blinds and cut some holes. No parts required.

Agreed. Unless some new documentation on secret inspections has been released, the 'fix' for the recall is not a fix for the faulty engine part, but a preemptive strike at limiting the possibility of an engine fire if the crankshaft is defective and goes berzerk.

I double checked and there isn't anything new on the NHTSA other than a notice expanding the VIN list to vehicle produced up to July 7th (was June 8th).

Although for some reason the FordPass OTA notice and mailer that Expedition/Navigators got for their fire recall was also listed under the documentation. Looks like they're getting a $500 debit card for their campaign.

From my understanding, the dealer just drills some holes in the floor splash guard and removes 4 of the aero grill shutters. There was no test involved. My dealer did it quickly.

Sounds like BS to me. I would be asking exactly what parts are needed. Sounds to me like it is possible they broke something while doing the recall and need the parts to fix it.

So, there's a chance that I'll get to the dealer and they'll say... Welp, you don't need anything to be done?

I haven't been notified yet that mine needs the recall. I called the dealership right after the recall was announced here, the service department had no idea what I was talking about.

Wouldn't removing the grill shutter's just add more air to the fire?
