The Maverick Owners Manual shows how to fold the rear seats in the Maverick which, since there are only two in our family, I may be interested in doing. However, the OM also says not to drive with the seats folded up/down for safety reasons. I’m confused. Safety issue?

From all the pictures that people have posted, it don't look like the back seats fold down flat so it really would not be of much use. There is also some equipment mounted on the back wall that could get damaged if you were using the area for cargo.

The backrest part of the seat does not lay down flat and there's no way to secure it down. It also exposes electronics.

The bottom part of the seat can be fixed in an open position... but when lifted up exposes the storage area, maybe thats a safety hazard in a crash ?

Either way I don't think you're going to benefit from having the seat folded in either direction.

I do agree it's odd the OM would say that about the backrest. Didn't Ford brag in one of their promos that you could fit a bicycle, minus the front tire, back there?

Good point!

At 5:19, the Ford engineer says, "When PARKED, you can store your mountain bike in the rear..." The lawyers sure did a good review job there. hahaha

THIS THREAD has what you need in place of the back seat.

Why not fold the seat up like it’s designed to do for storage?
