Make sure that the guy drilling the holes in the shield is not the same guy who drilled the drain holes after the SIB was installed... Quite a fix: drill holes in what was a shield and remove parts from an item designed to function as it was built. Guess that is the best they can do or is it the quickest and cheapest????  :(:(
I'm going with quickest and cheapest.

I read this bulletin and it is basically saying the engine has to grenade the lower end (which would let all the fluids out) and catch fire.

Did I read this correctly?
No, I didn’t see anything about grenades.

Updated with recall notice:

Just saw a new Maverick recall notice came out. https://www.newsmax.com/finance/str...threat-escape-maverick/2022/07/08/id/1077921/

The new recall covers certain 2020 through 2022 model year Ford Escape, Maverick and Lincoln Corsair vehicles with 2.5-liter Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid engines. Ford said in the event of an engine failure, significant quantities of engine oil and fuel vapor may be released that could accumulate near ignition sources resulting in a potential under-hood fire.
I carry a battery jump pack and fire extinguisher in all my cars :)
Ya never know when you might need them!

Wouldn't it be pretty obvious that you had catastrophic engine failure? It's not like it's going to fail in your garage in the middle of the night sitting by itself.
Chances are you'll find out while driving. Best case scenario, you stop getting power from the engine. Worst case, it ignites and you have to pull over and escape in time. Not great. They're trying to mitigate the fire hazard with this recall, but they're not going to be inspecting your crankshaft to look for the defect and proactively replace it.

Had a transmission break out of state on a highway, cruise control set around the ~55 mph speed limit. Suddenly, no power was getting to the wheels. Not a great feeling, luckily I was in the right lane and traffic was low at that time.

Don't really like the idea of my engine failing under worse circumstances.

I never saw this defect described by any owners here. All they’re doing is increasing air flow, which seems like a minor adjustment. I’d still have it done, but would probably wait until the next oil change to take it in. Unless they’re also going to fix the wiring harness sometime soon.
You're not likely to have heard of it if it's as rare as Ford claims.

Ford claims it affects 0.17 out of 1000 units, so 17 out of every 100,000. Or at least has so far. Not sure they've even sold 100,000 2020+ Escape Hybrid/PHEV, Corsair PHEV, and Maverick Hybrid units to date.

Gone are any regrets I had in choosing the ecoboost over the hybrid.
🙄

Are there people on the "fuel tank recall" thread that say ridiculouness like this?

It's almost as if Ecoboost owners have a chip on their shoulders and have to justify buying an EB. 🤷‍♂️ To each their own. Bummer about the hybrid recall. Best wishes with your Ecoboost. Done.

Yep.

I looked up the bulletin/ repair instructions. The procedure for the Maverick will take less than 30 min.
"Remove Four AGS Blinds and Drill Holes in the Engine Front Undershield "

Just removing a few of the blinds and putting some holes in the shield to reduce the build up of fluids that could occur in the event of an engine failure which would then increase the risk of a fire.

Looks like Mavericks built from early Feb to early June are included right now (my own included).
That's February of 2021, so basically all Maverick hybrids ever made.

Even though the Recall states build dates from February 3, 2022 through June 8, 2022 it appears that this recall is for all Maverick Hybrids manufactured.

Mine was built on November 29, 2021 and is on the recall list.

It is from February 2021 so even test/preproduction models too
