Ok Peeps..... just been informed by my dealer.. NO FWD 4K Tow will be built. This
info is because of this very informative forum. Lookin toward 2022 Ridgeline after been a loyal Ford owner for many years.
Why do you want a FWD 4K? Just curious

Don't know about others, but where I plan to use the Maverick, AWD wasn't necessary. The upgraded radiator, fan and oil cooler would be a benefit , just not absolutely necessary.

I just inherently distrust the center of mass in a fwd truck towing 4K. In a car the center of mass in a fwd is further back. I know I used to mount my spares in the steps of my stepsides but I welded the holes up in a steelie and carried extra weight behind the rear axle in the spare tyre slot so I had the extra downforce for traction. AWD moves enough weight back to make me less uncomfortable. In an accident the trailer and truck will rotate around the center of mass, both as a single unit and as individual pieces. I got clipped on I 20 one time and ended up sideways looking at an oncoming Juggernaut (semi) from the side. That 1 time was 2 times to many for me. Fortunately I got my truck restarted and off the road before being tboned but it stuck with me. So naturally I am paranoid about an off center hit effectively jack knifing a fwd large load trailer combo. Anecdotal I know, but it sticks with you.

So if Im reading all this correctly, an XLT hybrid Maverick with the Luxury Package will not come with the tow kit installed?

I know the tow kit comes with the luxury package.

That's a kind of a blow if this is true. Not a deal breaker, just a slight disappointment, but I will recover from my hurt emotions.

Check the accessory sheet, the tow package is basically a class 3 receiver and a 4 pin connector it is not the 4K tow package so they are still limited to 2k plus etrailer will offer a bolt in class 2/3 hitch soon after launch if you want to add one.

I understand that reasoning completely and agree with you. However no drive system is fool proof. Once, I was sliding sideways on glare ice in 4WD at less than 30MPH with oncoming and trailing traffic. Truck righted itself when the right front got some dry pavement. A major adrenalin rush for sure. My heart rate was in triple digits, I think. Years of winter driving and no trailer helped. As with most incidents the problem in usually inexperience and operator error. Bad roads and FWD only with a trailer can put you in the ditch in a heartbeat.

Yeah when in my old diesel CJ5 I used to crawl in 2w low on the theory that in 4w low once I was stuck I was stuck. Though in an ice storm (in TX where ice storms are very different) I once averaged 35 in 4w high as the wind had me crabbing to stay in my lane. It was a CERT deployment needing Hazmat support else I would have found an Awful Waffle and waited it out.

The tow hitch and 4pin is available, that is not the issue. What will not be built with FWD is the "4K Tow Package" which offers beefed up components and the ability to tow up to 4000lbs.

You will still get the hitch and the ability to tow 2000lbs.

don't need AWD

don't need AWD and the additional cost. FWD gets better gas mileage.
Too bad, too bad, and well too bad, if you want a tow package it’s awd or nadda

Ohhh. Ok this makes much more sense. Thank you! Just had a bit of a brain fart. Thanks you two!

The actual weight distribution doesn't change a substantial amount from FWD to AWD. And the more weight forward, the greater tendency to under steer. Your anecdote is counter to that fact.
