They are emailing people who are scheduled FWD 4K and say telling them to choose AWD to keep the 4K or drop the 4K
Yeah, that was explained in the first post. I'm sure most will just end up upgrading to AWD, as they selected the 4K tow package for a reason. That allows Ford to focus limited 4K kit inventory to the more profitable AWD Ecoboosts. Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't do the same thing as Hyundai, and not offer FWD at all on the upgraded engines until a later date, when they can catch up to demand in this crazy market.

Let’s over simplify the model: you have a force pushing down on the hitch receiver and the force is great enough to take up the entire suspension travel plus a bit more including tire squat. It seems reasonable that the back wheels will act as a fulcrum and the downforce on the front end will be reduced. Reducing the friction on the front tires. In a turning situation the vehicle could understeer and cause loss of control. I should send this problem over to Dr. Woods at UTA and let him geek out over this (he is head of the Formula SAE program over there).
You would have steering issues before traction issues, especially with traction control.

This is for Dealerinsider to answer instead of guesses from others:
So what about the FWD with 4K towing that have been scheduled? Will they be built, or deleted from the scheduling?
My order has not been scheduled. It's FWD with 4k tow pkge. Where do I stand now?

You either switch to awd or drop the tow, as it is your dealer should be asking you which one you want to do.

I just talked with my dealer; they've received nothing from FORD regarding this issue.
My dealer's manager didn't know about the change until I called this morning. I went in at 10 AM central and he had the notice from Ford printed. The dealers were notified. We just dropped the 4K tow and added a couple options. Didn't need the 4K for what the Maverick will be used for, anyway. I just thought it would be nice to have. I do know one thing, You can't believe everything you see on the Forum and not all dealers know more than some people on this Forum.

My dealer asked that your dealer post the written notice that you are referencing. He provided me

OK, I feel a lot better now. Spoke with my dealership's sales manager. All Future orders are affected by this issue. If your order was placed prior to this notification you will get AWD / 4k Tow combo.
