auto start stop goes through the HVAC control module. I tried checking settings to see if it stores on / off information in the module but no luck so far.

Short answer the on / off status for the the auto start stop button should be stored if anywhere in the PCM module.

Longer answer there is an auto stop accumulator that is part of the system on the transmission. The PCM module controls the power to the solenoid on the accumulator so that is how it turns on and off the system and in turn the starter relay.

My suggestion is have a copy of your default PCM settings, turn the auto stop start switch off then go into the as built data for the PCM and see if any of the settings changed. Then go from there if they did.

Doesn’t the AS/S get disabled when towing? On the F150 once you plug the trailer it deactivates
So there has to be some sort of setting to get around it
Right?
Fingers crossed

From the service manual. I am paraphrasing here.

During normal operation the auto start stop system may not stop the engine under the following conditions:

The A/C, heat or defrost settings are ON
The battery has a low state of charge or is below approximately 5°C (41°F) or above 60°C (140°F)
The maximum engine off time is exceeded
The engine operating temperature is less than 60°C (140°F)
The gear selector is in the PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL or SECOND GEAR position
Initial vehicle speed of greater than 4 km/h (2.5 MPH) and less than 2 seconds has elapsed
The vehicle is on a steep road grade
Elevation is above 12,000 feet (3,657 meters) approximately
The CPP sensor indicates the clutch pedal is not fully released

Any of the following conditions may result in an automatic restart of the engine:

The blower fan speed is increased or the climate control temperature is changed
An electrical accessory is turned ON or plugged in
Incorrect brake vacuum
The auto start stop switch is pressed to disable the system while the engine is stopped

So short of finding a default key on / switch off setting that persists between engine starts any of these conditions should work. Simply leaving the defroster on should be good enough without doing anything else.

I noticed on the new Expedition there is an option (a pay option) to remove the AS/S
Seems so ridiculous to even make this a forced thing…. Especially on such fuel efficient vehicles like the Maverick

Sorry but it sounds like it might be easier to train my brain and motor reflexes to just reach down and push the button after startup...

I did this and can confirm that it works. No auto start/stop anymore. Tested over 200 miles.
Going to try this out when I get the truck back from the tint shop, it was just a copy over from the Bronco Sport, no code changes that are Maverick-specific?

Spit balling now but if the AutoS/S button is useless afterwards, can it be reprogrammed for Hill Descent Control?

Direct copy from the sport. I doubt the button can be reprogrammed….

Awesome, thanks. On cursory look it seems it's either, so far at least, an outright disabling of ASS with a useless button or hit it every time I get in. Gonna mull it.

Didn't figure that would be the case and Maverick2022XL mentioned adding HDC as a separate toggle could be an option so I'll start looking into it, managing that on an XLT 4Kt would be nice to have for my area.

any hints to get started there @Maverick2022XL? 👀 I'm gonna start poking around later this week, see how quick I can void my ESP.

Not so much a forscan mod but what will work, the BMS system is what sets the on / off state of the auto stop system. If you disconnect your battery and hook a bad battery with low charge on instead and do enough on / off cycles with it the BMS will set auto / start stop to permanently off status. Put your good battery back on and it will stay off for good unless you reset the BMS system. That has to be done with a tool usually though it can be done manually. For Mavericks if it is anything like other Fords without rear fog lights to manually reset the BMS to re-enable auto start stop you do the following.

1. Turn the ignition to the on position.
2. flash the high beam 5 times
3. press the brake pedal 3 times
4. wait for the cluster to flash the battery light 3 times
5. restart the engine and the BMS system should be reset.

I was playing around with Forscan tonight and discovered that "Auto Stop Start" Under IPC Module

Configuration was set to "Enabled" and that there was an option to "disable" it so I figured I'd try it. I haven't been able to drive it yet but the autostart screen under settings, information is not there anymore and the grey A with a line through it is not there when I'm in park.

I will know for sure once I drive it in the morning but there is a huge possibility that you can disable it using Forscan! Assuming I'm not wrong of course, as I've only used it for an hour or so.

There si a way to disable, I did it on my 2022 xl, google how to do it on the Ford Bronco Sport, you have to change one of the codes.
