Yes, and Ford sold it’s share of Rivian this week. Made a ton of instant cash and gave away all the long term residual. Not sure i considered it a wise move. Think of the deals over the years, like Mazda and Jaguar. Never before seen taking a luxury brand and turning it into a hopped up Taurus. But all said they didn’t borrow money from the government during the depression. Could i do better - no - but i will never get a chance. Check out the new car they are about to build for Japan - awesome.

Mazda was a good add on. But Ford needed cash back in 2006-2007 and had to sell.
Jaguar on the other had was an absolute disaster. Cost Billions to buy invested additional Billions and sold at a huge loss. Never should have bought Jag.

Yup the first Ford Jag was nothing more than an expensive Taurus. The Chinese have done a good job with it. If it wasn’t for Mazda we would of never had the Ranger. Folks think that the B2000 was a Mazda version of the Ranger but it was the other way around. We can thank Toyota Prius for our Escape / Maverick Hybrid engines.

The Chinese did have the advantage of Ford investing Billions before they acquired Jag.
The first ones the X model were just a fancy Contour.

Car company's make cars in batches. Do usa then canada then another once the number they produce is exceed they roll it onto the next year's batch they don't take away from other markets because you then get people marking things up and cross border shopping. Which hurts the bottom line in the end

Cross border shopping doesn't work because the safety requirements are different. That’s why all of our cars must meet California specifications So they can at least make the same car across the states it wasn’t always that way. I remember moving to California and had to pay a special smog tax on my Vette. South America spec are much different and some Canadian specs also.

Tell that to the folks waiting a year and a half for a Bronco

A LM employee ordered a Wildtrak with a manual transmission in 2020. It was scheduled a week before they gave unscheduled early orders the option of receiving a Raptor or Everglades version (can't remember which).

AFAIK there are still outstanding MY21 Bronco orders.
