I may be, but how many people are here that actually have a Maverick in their driveway. How many miles do they have as of today?
Good questions. Also important would be the base rate of problems with other types of vehicles. (Not just from your one-person sample, but from a decently-sized sample of owners.)

Since you are deciding to sideline your Maverick for unreliability -- based on what you have read here on the forum -- I hope you will research these things to determine if these reports really indicate a problem. Or if it's just more internet noise. It would be good to know.

Just curious, is there a break-in period where speed should be restricted to say 55 or 60? I’m not saying you did anything wrong, just asking.

Was able to talk to the service manager and got a slightly better understanding of what is going on. Sorry if I don't get all the terms right, he was speaking pretty fast and I didn't fully understand the parts he was describing and how they worked together over the phone, but this is what I took away.

It's a FRONT axle issue, not rear axle. (The service advisor was the one that told me rear axle initially) The front axle connects to some support bearing which then connects to the transmission. There’s a spring that goes into some holder which is then bolted onto something else (I think he said it's connected the drivetrain?). The spring or the holder wasn't installed correctly at the factory so at some point something broke and now the axle shaft is separating under acceleration.
He said that part of the transmission (the differential) isn't under pressure so it's possible not all the fluid leaked out.

He's waiting on a new front axle and after that is repaired he's going to test it, run diagnostics and drive it to see if there are additional repairs needed. He said he has done a visual inspection of the transmission and it looks ok, but he can't promise if it was damaged or not internally. He said it's not uncommon for Ford to extend the warranty in cases like this, so that is reassuring to know.
I’m glad you were able to speak with someone more knowledgeable. Since it was driven after the shaking occurred there is a possibility of irregular wear on parts other than the axle. I would definitely push for an extended warranty.

If something wasn't installed correctly, not your fault and Ford should make it right for you and extend your warranty. You'll need to press them for the warranty extension.

This takes the wind out of my sails. I planned on taking the truck on a 5k trip around the Midwest in June visiting different sights and relatives, but I want to go with confidence and not spend any time at a dealer. I know, the warranty will cover repairs. Will the warranty cover a ruined trip?

I'm going to eat the gas and take my 2016 Rav4 and go on vacation with peace of mind. Since 1979 I have owned all Toyota's and never had to use a warranty for anything and never gave a second thought about taking trips.

I bought the Maverick because it was the only truck Hybrid on the market. If failures keep occurring, in three years Toyota will have a Hybrid Tacoma and I'll trade the Maverick or sell it outright.

I wish Ford didn't rush the truck to market and spent more time doing real life testing and life cycle management. They have a great idea and product, just a few more years and the truck would have been ready for prime time. It's just my humble opinion after buying new cars and trucks since age 18 and I'm 69 now.
You do realize that most people are not having any problems with their Mavericks like myself, but when someone does, unfortunately, have a problem they post about it because we like to get things off our chest it's therapeutic...

Hybrid. 894 Miles so far and not a single complaint. Radio is certainly glitchy as it sometimes freezes with the last song title as a new song is playing, but audio never freezes. Does not surge in cold temps so far. Keep the heater set at a reasonable temperature. 3 cold starts and no surge or glowing cat. 35mpg at 95% highway. Loving every time I drive it.

The whole truck was shaking over 15mph and the shaking was so bad that it felt very unsafe over 30mph so I didn't want to drive it far. My home is about 90 miles from the dealership so I ended up limping at a slow speed to the closest Ford dealership and crashed in a hotel room until the next day when I learned that service was booked full for 3 weeks so I just got it towed back to the original dealership. It didn't feel safe to drive all the way there with all the shaking, plus I was worried about causing further damage so I got it towed.
FYI, if within the first 5 years/60,000 miles, your Maverick seems unsafe to drive to the dealer for repairs, it comes with Ford's Roadside Assistance. They'll arrange a tow to the dealer if necessary. Give them a call or put in your request via the FordPass app. Don't drive it if it feels unsafe. :)

if anyone has access to a list of TSB’s, this should answer your question on how many and what Ford knows about that is casing issues with the trucks.

No. The first thousand miles are recommended not to be driven at fast speeds but the number isn’t identified. At any rate the truck can drive with no issues at 90MPH+ from new.

Better watch the wear and tear on whichever shoulder you're moving most to pat yourself on the back...all that repetitive use could result in injury. :)
LOL...I was think similar...
If you can't trust a dealer tech...then something is wrong. Most dealer techs I've known have been at least properly trained...but it's a different world now...we got burger flippers selling at the retail parts counter.

That’s trans fluid.

You don’t have a rear axle

It’s an axle shaft or seal that isn’t fully seated

Tell them to fix it.

sorry to hear you had issues with your hybrid. I picked mine hybrid XL up almost 2 weeks ago and took it to Portland and back without any issues so far (I'm in Idaho). The truck now has over 1300 miles. Will keep all members posted if I run into any issues with my hybrid. Ford offers 5 years road Side assistance if I remember it correctly?
