Did a test this evening. I wired up a 12V electronic device and ran the truck for a short trip - device was on (LED light glowing), pulled in the garage and turned off the truck and pulled out the key and started the stopwatch on the iPhone.

I DID NOT LOCK THE VEHICLE with the keyfob or manually.

20 minutes later LED still on
40 minutes later LED still on
60 minutes later LED still on

AND I almost stopped the test at this point thinking maybe it doesn't automatically shut off unless you lock the truck BUT

90 minute mark - LED went off, confirmed power shut off

So if you pull up to the campsite and pull the key out you could use your 12V bed accessory outlet for 90 minutes.

I'd love to have someone else confirm this with their truck.

I'm going to do more testing and see if the device will continue working for that length of time if under load at different points. In my initial test the draw would have only been for the LED light in standby mode.

NEXT TEST - How long does power stay on if I lock it with the keyfob?

It stays on only until the battery dies 🤣

It probably shuts off when battery voltage drops below a certain threshold.

Where did you access power for the 12 volt device? That will have some impact on how long it stays on or did you plug it in at the bed?

The device wasn't pulling any amps aside from the LED light so don't think that would be the case in this test. It also was exactly 1 hour and 30 minutes when it shut off.

I used the pre-wired 12V accessory plugs (there is one on either side of my XLT).

I'd be curious if you walked up 30 minutes and attempted to use it, would it work?

This could be load dependent too in addition to time?

You left out one important piece of info. What was the device you plugged in and was it on, not just stand by?

I'll try using it for 10 minutes after the truck shuts off and then come back at the 1 hour mark and use it again and then at the 1:25 mark.

I’ve tried the USB ports inside and they turn off immediately when locked on the Bronco sport. I’m sure it’s the same in the back with the Mav.

I tried locking the truck with the tailgate open but still had power at the back!

The power inside shuts down way sooner than the power in the bed after you pull out the key.

I think this is great news!
I was all excited to wire LEDs under my cover but then got the wind taken out of my sails a bit when I found out the power back there was tied to the key.
Now that I know I'm good for 90 mins, I'm going to get ordering some LED strips to install.

Thank you @Big Kahuna for figuring this out.
