For 20 years I have used Tire Foam to clean my engine compartments. Works great - quick and simple. Has anyone tried anything on a hybrid or should i be able to use the same method. You thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I don't see why it would be any different.

Sounds like you're already experienced and careful, but I figure that I'd remind any new car owners who might read this to be VERY careful when using pressure washers in the engine bay--too much pressure can inject water into places where you don't want it. Hoses are much safer.

Why not engine foam?

Yes, i learned that the hard way years ago. That’s when i stopped using water, the tires foam trick was given to me by a old guy who used vit on his used Corvette dealership lot.

I have always wondered about people who clean their engines. I have never ever done that on any of my cars, but am curious now that I have the Maverick. Do you need to tape or cover off certain parts of the engine? What's the general procedure? Is this how the detailers do it? Is it safe to have that much water all over the engine compartment? I mean isn't that what the hood is for (to protect engine parts from water and debris)...honestly I don't know and I am curious. Please explain like I'm a noob.

I just spray tire foam all over everything in the engine compartment. Everything and it eats the dirt.
Easy enough, thank you.

I don't see how Tire Foam could work by itself. Don't you need to rinse it off after?

As far as the Hybrid, I would just avoid cleaning it unless there's a way you can disconnect the high voltage and 12v battery and wait until everything dries before plugging them back in again.

The first time I cleaned one of my car's engines, the alternator went out the next day so the 2nd and last time I did it on another car of mine, I disconnected and removed the battery, then went to work, let it sit in the hot sun for 3 days to dry, then connected the battery again. Everything was ok after.

It was the high voltage that i was concerned with. On a ICE engine no need to use any water with tire foam to rinse it.

I have used tire foam for decades also, all my cars have had a sparkling clean look, way easier to sell down the road. It is so simple and no washing needed, unless you go mudding, which is a different thing entirely. The stuff makes the plastic and rubber bits clean, not shiny, and I usually wipe excess foam off to make it keep looking like new. However, after 73 vehicles, I have never had a hybrid engine before, and by the pictures it looks like a plumbing nightmare, not at all something you would want to wipe off little bits here and there. I will deal with that when I get it, this spring I hope, and avoid mud. I have seen the cover option discussed, but that would restrict air that might cause problems. The more naked an engine, the better.....

@fordvideoguy Tim, would you please ask your car detailing folks how they clean a hybrid engine. Is it any different than a ICE. I have always used Tire Foam - thanks.
