Hybrid Underhood Cleaning Safety

I would like to keep my Hybrid Maverick Clean under the hood but I'm concerned that spraying a water hose under the hood (even as a fine mist) could kill me (due to the high voltage wires and terminals) or at a minimum might cause accelerated corrosion in electrical connections.

What say you? Anything official on this from Ford?

I’m wiping down the under hood area (including the underside of the hood) with graphene detail spray, the same spray that I use as a drying aid after the weekly exterior wash. I use a nearly end of life microfiber towel. I use Adam’s Graphene Detail spray, and I am sure there are many other good brands out there.

There are quite a few electrical components on a standard engine. Cleaning those never caused a problem. Also, when it's raining, isn't water getting up in there anyhow?

I don't think a hose is going to hurt anything. Could be wrong but can't find anything that says no.

Get one of those official Ford dead man shepherds hooks that a bystander can use, just in case.

I live in a dust bowl for 30+ years now I have always sprayed down my engines every month also I wash my vehicles once a month due to dust. I wash it and two days after a sheet of dust on my vehicles which blows off when I drive it so dust summer/mud winter I’ve never encountered any electric issues so you should be ok. The only thing that I do myself is when wire covering come loose or tape unwinds i retape or use zip ties to reattach the covering. Continue to keep your maverick clean your mechanic will love you my technician always states “I wish all my customers kept their engines clean like you do”. Maverick on…….

Use glass cleaner and a microfiber. Keep the cloth separate. You won’t get shocked.

Have you been spraying down your Maverick Hybrid engine bay with a water hose (and lived)? It would just seem like it might be dangerous to do so, maybe it's not?

Just washed my engine compartment on Monday and did a side job on Wednesday truck drove great no issues. Next time I’ll video tape it.

Hybrid owners need to know that there is a small green plug in the engine compartment just near the driver's side headlamp. You pull the end piece out of that plug and it kills the high voltage clear back to the battery. BTW, Page 320 of the owner's manual recommends some things to do before washing the engine.

And cover up certain items. Also, what about if the service department changes your oil and leaves off the lower splash shield? I think anyone that happens to has a case against the service department employee that left it off.

The only way you will get shocked is if you mess with underneath the orange cables.
