Thinking about spraying engine degreaser and a garden hose on my hybrid engine … any thoughts? Bad idea?

I think it was something like $50 years ago when I had the engine compartment steam cleaned.

Why would it be so dirty as to need cleaning, dusty roads?

My 2022 is now 3 years old and engine is as clean as the day I bought it... all I've done is used an air nozzle every few months to clean off the light dust.

Engine bay cleaning would be like any other.

Keep water out of electrical things the number 1 rule.

Since you didn't mention anything specific, or think the hybrid would be special - just want to make sure you know how to do that correctly, and the extra items to protect that have an orange cable harness going to them.

Here's one such video.

Back when I would wash my Cruze, I would just leave the car running and wash it like I washed the car lol. Opened the hood, sprayed, went to town with the brush, sprayed again and it always looked great lmao. I would not recommend that, but that Cruze probably had that done 20+ times and it was fine (other than it being a Cruze).

There is no mechanical advantage to cleaning your engine bay, so I wouldn't do it.

Personally I wouldn't do it. If you do, cover items with orange wiring leading to them with plastic bags and don't get water into the air intake.

I would first blow dust off with compressed air, using a small paintbrush to loosen dust/dirt, then use a damp rag as opposed to hosing it down.

If you decide to hose it down, start and drive it immediately afterward.

I love the look of a clean engine as much as you do, but in years past have always covered the alternator, carburetor and distributor. I stopped cleaning them at all when they went to EFI and more electronic sensors & actuators started appearing. The risk of electrical problems from corrosion is not terribly high, but the risk of problems from dirt and dust is essentially zero.

2nd. - wait 15 minutes

3rd- start truck

4th.- 5 minutes, ( while still running) either hose down with garden hose, or as I do pressure wash motor,( while running)

5th.- let run for 15-25 minutes to dry

6th. - done
