Even before I bought the Maverick, I knew that Ford was the only manufacturer of pickups to be considered. Nobody builds better pickups that Ford right now.
Err I hate to be that guy but Toyota has a fantastic history of making the Tacoma and Tundra. Ford has points on them though for advancements in technology.

Another post with Jeep version. Too much like a Santa Fe.

Honestly, Ram and Jeep are both expensive brands. Any compact truck they made would probably start around $24k, if not way higher. And it'd immediately get ripped by both communities.

Also, with Chrysler's build quality? Not sure I'd want to buy one. The Maverick has its own set of problems, but they don't seem to be quite like the Jeep community's endless complaining about radio/dash failures and how they pop Check Engine Lights almost as soon as they get into the driveway.

Renegade has nothing to do with the Fiat 500 chassis, its 500X, which while similar sounding are two totally unrelated platforms. The 500 is truly microscopic in size, whereas the 500x/Renegade chassis goes all the way in size to a Jeep Compass which is actually pretty roomy. The Compass PHEV that Europe gets that was just refreshed is also pretty damn nice, but unfortunately the US only gets the junk Tigershark poop.

The Renegade gets a lot of hate, but I always thought it was super cute and would totally buy one of those if it were more reliable. Nothing against Fiat or FCA in general, as I had a Fiat 500 that was the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, and a Ram 1500 that at 150K+ miles hasn't needed more than a couple hundred bucks in parts replaced, but the Renegade has well known total crap reliability.

I think FCA products are fine, as long as they aren't built in Italy, and the Renegade is.
That's the ugliest f'ing thing I've ever seen! LOL!

Let's get back to the Compact Truck 80's so I can relive my youth with style!! Lowered on polished Centerline's, suicide doors, nothing but hydraulics and speakers under the bed cover........ 🕺

That was the most poorly written article I have ever read. I feel dumber just from having read it, and I blame the OP.
They keep saying it is a midsize truck and comparing it to a Maverick but the Ranger is Ford's mid size pick up. If Ram decides to build something like what the article is describing, it will be smaller than a Maverick and more expensive than a Ranger.

it would have to have a hybrid or some REAL GREAT MPG ,thats what is nuts about the santa cruz my 2019 f-150 2.7 is rated about same mpg ??? 20-26, i dont drive it easy or slow and avg 22.5 on the dash read out. same as the Ranger I was gona buy that instead of the f-150 , but same mpg. and at that time ,of "discounts" the f-150 was less than a Ranger not for 2022 anymore, now Mullinax is pretty much sticker and all.

Currently it would have a 25% tax as is is built in Brazil
They will find a way just like Ford does with the Transit connect from Turkey.

Was nice to buy a ford after driving imports most of my longish life. Hopefully my maverick proves reliable. Don’t seen the Dakota compelling at all and would be very concerned about reliability. Maverick has a lock on this new niche for a while. An awd hybrid maverick would be excellent if they can pull that off ahead of competition

I've owned enough Chrysler products over the years to know that I'll never buy another. As of right now, there is no competition for the Maverick.
Amen. I made the mistake - once - of buying a new Chrysler product. Never again.
