I received my catch can from Buschur's and installed it today. Install took about 30 minuted and 20 of that was making sure I did everything right.

I didn't get install instructions in the box so I had to work it out myself. It was a problem, I was just nervous about making a mistake that could have caused the truck to be undrivable for a while. This led me to double check my triple checks to make sure I did it right. If I were to install another I could be done in 10-15 minutes.

The catch can came with a bolt to fasten it to the truck but no nut. There was nowhere to screw the bolt, it was just a hole. I had to use my own washers and nut to fasten it down. Again not an issue if you have the parts laying around.

I was most nervous about cutting the existing hose as it is a Saturday and I didn't want to make a mistake that would have the truck down a long time. A razor blade right at the end got them to pop off. Be careful not to cut the o-ring underneath. The hoses that came with the catch can were the right length and didn't need trimming.

What I did notice is the existing fitting were soaking wet inside. Oily feel and a strong gas smell. One can argue whether or not it will hurt the engine, but I don't see how you could argue against it being there at all and I don't see how that is good for anything in the long run. You can see the oil and gas on it.

What is this, and what is the purpose?
During combustion gas and exhaust get past the piston rings. These contaminates get into the crank case and mix with the oil. When an engine is running these will vaporized mix with a small amount of vaporized oil and build pressure. There is a valve to release the pressure and vent it back into the air intake system to get burned again. If you have a turbo these contaminates will have to go through the turbo and the intercooler. Over time they will build up in the turbo and more into the intercooler causing problems. This is kind of a filter between the pressure relief valve and the return to the air intake removing the contaminates (oil, exhaust and gas).

There is a ton of debate if these work or if they are needed. Some people thing that the amount of contaminates are so small that they are not worth filtering out. Others say it is vital for the longevity of the engine.

I have done some research and decided that the design of this engine allows for enough of the contaminates to be recycled back into the air intake to warrant needing filtered. When I put the can on the existing hose was soaked with oil and gas. This is in 1500 miles. I can only imagine in 80,000 miles what it would be like. I plan on keeping my truck for a long time and the small investment will help maintain it.

If you dare the rabbit hole you will find there is no answer and opinions are a entrenched as the premium fuel debate.

Any concern with Factory warranty?

I installed this same can about 3 months ago and have put 3200+ easy miles on it. Today was the first time I drained it and found about a shot glass worth of brown stinky sludge in it. Wished I’ld taken a picture.

A lot of talk about how well or necessary it is. I’m feeling pretty good about it tonight.

I want to buy one of these things but I have no idea how to properly install it. Is it as easy as it seems? Are there any instructions? What extra parts should I make sure that I have in order to do it correctly the first time and not have to run to the store?

It is as easy as it appears. If memory serves, @Buschur has a pic or video post out here that confirms easy it is.

I'll talk to my guys there should be written instructions with every one of those and the intakes.

The hole you used to mount the can is correct and should have been threaded 6x1.0 and a bolt was supplied to mount it there.

Thanks for the review!

I just saw on the F150 3.5EB site a guy had his oil tested and was found to have an extremely dangerous level of fuel in the oil, that is mostly what drained out of my FULL can last week after a 3600 mile road trip.

no problem about the instructions. It was easy. The hole was not threaded for me, but that doesn't surprise me. I will take a video at 1,000 miles and see what comes out. As the hose was completely wet when I took it off I would be surprised if there is nothing there.

Mine filled on a 3600 mile trip and got small amounts running around town and a LOT of pulls on the dyno.

Thinking strongly about installing on my Mav 2.0 but would love to see an oil analysis on before and after installation. (Of course changing oil after install). Any stats here anywhere?

Question: Is the 2.0EB in the Maverick a GDI engine, or Port Fuel Injected?
