I would love to see a Maverick next to a Nissan Frontier or Hyundai Santa Cruz

That would be a good comparison IMO. I think the Frontier 4door (not King Cab) has a smaller bed than the Maverick And we know the Hyundai only has a 4 foot bed. The Hyundai is priced (loaded) in Ridgeline pricing 44k. The base Santa Cruz starts at what I priced my XLT Lux Maverick for and I will get better fuel mileage.

The current generation Frontier crew cab standard bed (which I own) is 206" long with a 5' bed. The Maverick overall is ~200" long with a 4.5" bed. Interesting the Maverick bed and overall length are both 6" shorter than the current Frontier. I believe the soon-to-be released 2022 Frontier is going to be a few inches longer up front to get better crash protection scores, but the bed length will still be 5'.

Also noteable is that the current Frontier bed width is 60" (I just measured it). Maverick specs says 53.3". My Frontier can just fit one cubic yard of dirt piled high. I have a feeling I might miss that extra space when picking up bulk dirt for the garden beds, but most of the time, I'll enjoy the better efficiency (even with the 2.0) and slightly smaller footprint of the Maverick. (That being said, I'm still curious about the 2022 basic crew cab Frontier. All they're showing so far is the Pro-4X, which is beyond my needs or wallet.)

Me too. If I can get a base Frontier 4wd extended cab with locking diff for $5000 to 8,000 more than the Maverick I am eyeing, it will be a tough choice

The Frontier pricing is very attractive considering the towing capability starting at 6720lbs(4x2 crew cab) I want to get a small travel trailer and by the time I start adding on items to the Maverick to make it equal to the Frontier offering thee is only about a $2000 difference. higher in the Frontier. However, the gas mileage on the Maverick is going to be a lot better. This is making the choice difficult for me. I already have the Mav ordered but the 2022 Frontiers are ARRIVING on Tuesday, August 10 at my dealer.

Is there any data or good gestimates on what this maverick can do under load, Max load as far as MPG?

The Frontier is in the Ranger class, not the Maverick class of trucks. If you look at the Nissan Titan you can see why they changed the look. No doubt they WILL come out with a Maverick class of small trucks in the future. The Titan is no longer available in Canada so more than likely they have it on the drawing board. They will no doubt also have a fully electric one, a gas, and a hybrid. They have an all-electric motor that has 214 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque.

The availability of the Frontier(8-10-21) vs the wait for the Maverick may push some people to that truck. Similar amenities in the Frontier S vs Maverick XLT is only about $2,000 more with a much higher towing capacity(6720lbs).

I have a gas XLT ordered but may have to change it to a hybrid if I get the Frontier. and use the hybrid as my daily driver.

From experience in towing for years. You will never wish for a smaller engine especially in the Mountains or less payload/tow rating. It really will depend on weight of rv trailer and wind resistance. I wouldn't tow much more than a teardrop or pop up trailer with the Maverick. IE: 3500 pounds total fully loaded and top of trailer is even with Maverick or just a little taller. It may cost a little more in gas but that difference will be made up with piece of mind and flexibility with a mid size. Also, with midsize beds you can get a camper/wedge tent like Alucab, Superpacific etc. I think the Maverick will be too small for this type of camper.

I really want the Maverick to work. I am afraid the Maverick may be just a little to small for my needs but I have time on my hands to wait. Now if you could upgrade to the 2.3l engine in a Maverick it would be a no brainer.

Agreed, I was thinking about the same thing the other day and wondering how much it would cost to drop in a bigger engine, LOL. A 4000lb trailer isn't all that much if you want a degree of lasting quality built-in that is not a sardine can. That is why I forced myself to look elsewhere. The strain on the engine and transmission, inability to pass safely, etc and that can lead to the personal toll of frustration. Then you get sloppy and more aggressive which are all recipes for a looming disaster. I will keep my place in line for the Maverick, change it over to a no-frills XLT hybrid and use it as my daily driver and get rid of the Honda Insight. Tuesday I will be putting hands on, on a 2022 Nissan Frontier.

I always liked the Nissan Frontier as far as size is concerned. The V6 is the thirstiest beast out there but it has power and towing capability.
The new 2022 Frontier is the size of a full size truck and going in the wrong direction from what I want in a truck.
