Daughter CVT went out in her 2019 Kia Forte with 63k miles. We bought it used so only had the 60k mile warrenty. Cost $2200 to buy a used transmission with 1600 miles out of a wrecked car and have it installed. Not too bad I guess, but should have lasted a lot longer.

They're all sold, waiting for Maverick

Not jumping on any bandwagon…I’ve lived it for 8 years. They’re noisy, sluggish, unreliable, jerky…I can go on. I’m glad ford seems to have addressed some issues w them
The eCVT is totally different technology from a CVT. I wish Ford would have named it differently.

Been driving a 2009 Ford escape hybrid bought off the lot and brand new. I love everything about it. Tried to replace it many times, but it kept winning.

I really dislike CVTs. I hate how they keep the engine in the proper rev range for power/efficiency. I really wish they would just stick to a fixed number of gears at fixed ratios and clunk through them with the smoothness of sandpaper. Who wants near-instant power without 2 or 3 downshifts anyway? /s

Those original transaxles are not too much different then the one in the Maverick. Can you provide the mileage and maintenance you have done? Also is the high volt battery still kicking it?

2005 FEH, 98,000 miles. Changed oil every 3,000. Changed 12V battery at 10 years. 3rd set of tires. Replaced front brake hoses and lower control arms. Traction battery is oem. Replaced battery coolant pump. Replaced a/c scroll compressor. Replaced transfer case. Clean battery fan and filter annually.

The Kia CVT is called intelligent variable transmission (IVT). This is a belt driven transmission. I’m convinced this design sucks.

Just curious, of all the concerns I heard from people with both the eCVT and conventional belt driven CVT's, I've never heard anyone complain there wasn't a dedicated reverse.
Same here. Electric reverse is one of the perks I like about an eCVT. Gasoline engines produce very little power at idle speed, which can be tricky if you need to back up a steep driveway, or back a trailer up a steep driveway, or back into your garage without filling it up with carbon monoxide.

Now on the matter of "traditional" belt-driven CVTs, I don't think they have a place in a road-going vehicle. I consider them a stop-gap solution for automakers to meet CAFE requirements while more long-term solutions (hybrids/PHEVs/BEVs) are developed.

Heck, even the side-by-side folks know to carry a spare CVT belt and the tools to change it when venturing out.

Toyota has had ecvt’s in their hybrids for years and they’ll go few hundred miles without any problems

You can't compare the CVT that was in your Subaru to the eCVT that Ford uses. Your subaru used a terribly unreliable system with "pulleys and a band" while the Ford uses a very robust planetary gear system.
Well actually.....Subaru's CVT uses a chain to link the pulleys and not the steel belt that is prone to slippage and failure famous on the JATCO CVTs.

That said Subaru's CVTs have had some issues but nothing like the JATCO units have made CVTs famous for, and in fact Subaru has been using a CVT since 1989. The problems are generally limited to 2012-2017 and subaru extended warranties on the CVT to 10 years, 120k.

Mine had 8 years, 105k miles on it and nary an issue while my Forester was put through it's paces in the mountains of Western NC.

Was prone to a little bittle of a CVT shake/shudder at low speeds but that's it.

EDIT: I also owned a 2013 Nissan Altima with a JATCO piece of shit transmission that more or less exploded at 1,300 miles and got a full buyback via lemon laws in Ohio.

OK, I just did. Seems that your experience is limited.

But, hey, it’s OK to have strong opinions without knowledge or experience these days, right?

I was skeptical of eCVTs until I drove one. Truly a great invention. I have never liked automatic transmissions or convention CVTs, instead clinging to my manual transmissions with a death grip. But I have become an eCVT convert. They are amazing.
