Whenever I use Carplay my first call has no audio. It does not matter if I receive a call or make a call. I have no audio at all. I have to switch the audio on the phone from Carplay to the phone for it to work. Or I hang up and call the person right back. If I am going to make a call I have gotten into the habit of calling, hanging up real quick and then calling again.

It only happens on the first call after connection, then I am fine. not sure what to do.

Sometime when I plug in my iPhone it takes up to 2 minutes for Carplay to activate. Sometime it connects in about 2 seconds. Completely random on how long it takes to show up. Sometimes the icon shows up and I have to load the Carplay screen, other times it boots right into Carplay.

Also for some reason when I use Carplay it turns my radio off. So if I am in the truck using Carplay and get out, when I get back into the truck the radio is turned off. So I either use Carplay again or I have to turn my radio back on. It doesn't remember the last setting before I plugged the phone in.

Are these issues something Ford is going to address? I don't know how often Ford updates the software or how to even let Ford know of the issues. I don't want to run to my dealer with every software issue I encounter.

I figure this is an iPhone issue but the volume through Carplay is close to half of the radio/bluetooth without Carplay. So I listen to the radio/or bluetooth from my iPhone at one level (usually 8-9) and if I plug it in to use Carplay I have to almost double the volume (13-14) to get the volume back to the same level.

I have an iPhone 11 with most recent software update. I checked the Software on the truck yesterday and it said no updates.

I have not yet used CarPlay, but I have an iPhone 10 and I use bluetooth and listen to Pandora and it's great. Better than it was in my 2016 Ford Focus. Also, when I either call or get called while driving the sound is exceptional! I will have to try CarPlay and find out what its like. I've also had no issues with the radio like I've read others on here have. Volume is 7 or 8 which is much lower than I had to use in the focus.

Like you I have had no problems using the phone with bluetooth. My issues seem to stem from switching between Carplay and Bluetooth. For short trips around town I only use bluetooth, longer trips get Carplay. It is becoming an annoyance turning the radio on to listen to something during a 5 minute trip because my last trip I used Carplay.

I know, first world issues. Not return the car to the dealer bad, but enough for an enthusiast forum.

YES YES YES, this is exactly what happens in my truck, I’m so glad I’m not the only one.

Someone here is an official Ford account. I will send him a link to this thread, maybe he can pass it along to someone.

Same thing with seemingly random connection delays. On my other vehicle that has wireless CarPlay (terrible) I noticed that “starting navigation“ in Google maps often encourages it to go ahead and connect, but with the wired CarPlay in my maverick it doesn’t seem to make any difference what I do.

I’m having some of the same issues. Although, I haven’t received or made more than one call while driving to know if I can receive calls after the first!

Mine does interesting things to as well…. I usually turn it off and back on and it fixes most of the problems.

The thing I really hate is the Apple CarPlay volume is so quite when playing audio verse the Ford Radio… and the having to double the volume to hear it and then it’s blaring when switching to the radio.

Hope they can figure it out soon.

And yes the volume on my iPhone is turned up all the way when I get into the truck.

I also had issues wit the Apple carplay. I dialed into my home WiFi and downloaded all the available updates. Have not had the problem since. Updates did take about 40 minutes though.

Car play is glitchy. Could be the phone or the truck. Guess you would have to try it in another vehicle. I will have to try it in my wife’s Bronco Sport. I believe it has an upgraded radio/sync.

you can adjust the volume level when using Sync for your phone AND also for radio volume - next time using your phone, turn the volume up - it will only adjust for that setting, when using Sync for phone usage...

I didn’t see any settings in my iPhone for that. Only thing it lets me do is customize what apps show on the Home Screen.

Bob, you use the radio volume control knob to turn up the 'phone volume' on the truck...same knob you use for radio volume...

Gotcha, I thought you were talking about an output setting in the phone…. It’s surprising how low of a volume the phone plays via USB or Bluetooth. as compared to the normal volume of the radio.
