Sold some of my $F. Earnings are coming out tonight after market close. I expect the earnings to be good and likely to beat estimates. So why sell now? Even though Ford doesn't (typically?) give forward guidance I think there is a high probability that questions regarding production issues will be raised (e.g. "chip shortages"). If they answer that question, they have to be careful not to give a misleading answer on a earnings conference call. So, I'm thinking (right or wrong) that they will need to give a somewhat downbeat discussion on current production (as opposed to the last quarter) given the delays on (almost) completed production seems to be happening across Maverick, Bronco Sport, Bronco and perhaps other vehicles. The "big one" (in terms of earnings) is of course F-150 production, so who knows.

Disclaimer: You place your bets and take your chances. If wrong, it won't be the first (or last time) that I am wrong, and $f is not a major part of my portfolio, nor (as of this moment) have I sold all of it.

See many replies about a blasted computer chip again. When will America wake up and get back into producing our own? Even if it isn't a chip, we don't produce squat and it's biting us in the butt! One more thing, yes computers make the engine run more efficiently, but quite sure technology exists where good old mechanical design and ingenuity can satisfy the government. Well maybe not the government, but the consumers.

Y'all have got me terrified to check my email...
No kidding! Ordered a Base XLT on October 15 with a build date of February 21. Changed last Thursday to the week of February 14. I’m working from home with no return to office date but I’m scared to check emails today.

Yes, this exact scenario played out last summer with Bronco Sports sitting in the hot, scorpion-infested desert for six months waiting for chips. Some are just arriving at dealerships now.

At least the paint will be fully baked and cured.

It's just a hybrid issue, if you look at the orders being moved they are Lariat with Luxury Packages. I will talk about it tonight.
I have an 2.0EB AWD and just checked, mine moved from 2/12 to 4/25. Only good news is by the time I actually get it, it can be a SEMA vehicle lol.

From a few posts I've read, and from a Ford cost/convenience point of view, it kinda seems like Ford may be willing to let trucks sit in fields waiting for chips while trucks coming off the line get priority for chips, if the chips are available when a new built truck is actually coming off the line. Totally wrong from a customers point of view though.
That's a concern for me as well. I'd like to know if that's happening.

That's why I asked people to report here if their truck gets built and shipped after 2/2/22. (In other words, after Ford sent out the 3-month delay notices for some of the trucks -- like mine -- that are already built and sitting in the lot.)

That would make sense if they start prioritizing old orders or old orders newly scheduled. Bump back newer orders that are built or scheduled and get the older orders delivered first.

Of course at that point that is less efficient and you are still pissing off customers so I doubt it.

Well, folks, sounds like a (yet to be confirmed) chip shortage has screwed most of us...including some of us who were finally on the verge of actually getting our trucks.

Could be that I'm the one who jinxed it.
Bought my spouse snow tires for Christmas
and we sold our second car a week ago
expecting our truck very soon.

My heart goes out to everyone who was a day or two away from delivery
and already had financing set up.

I just gotta say, Ford (and I hope you dudes are reading this!!), it's pretty lousy of Ford to let us all find out this way and not BEGIN with an explanation! This is the worst PR mess I've ever encountered (and I have 8 grandchildren, so I'm no spring chicken). If you treat your customers like crap, you're going to lose significant business. For heaven's sake, Ford, get a Communications and PR Manager!!
I get it. As someone who ordered in June, finally got a build date 2 weeks ago and then immediately had it pushed back 3 more weeks (so, little chance at this point that we get our truck within 12-months of ordering), I am getting increasingly annoyed. But, this has been the case with EVERYTHING I have tried to buy in the last year. I ordered a pair of electric bikes in April, with a promised date of "before Thanksgiving". As of October, we were still promised "before Thanksgiving"; it's February now and no bikes. This is from one of the largest and most established electric bike manufacturers on the planet. Their communication has been even worse than Ford's; nearly impossible to get someone on the phone and they simply do not respond to the website chats or emails. They even sent me a tracking number a few weeks ago, saying it was my bike - sucker, it was the extra battery packs and fast charger we ordered at the same time, for the bikes we still have no information on.

This is my first experience with Ford. It hasn't been good, but I haven't had a better time ordering anything else the past year so I'm not sure what my alternatives are. In my 40yrs, I don't recall supply-chain issues even remotely close to as bad as what we are experiencing now; it's frankly kind of frightening.

@Rickus

Here in Ohio, Intel will also be starting a microchip plant. First production likely not until 2025 though:

“Intel, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer announced plans Friday to build a new $20 billion factory outside of Columbus, Ohio.”
I tthought when they said the truck came "with Scorpions" that referred to the Pirelli tires they were using on many Mavericks. 😮

To save money they're instead going to outfit the FX4 package trucks with Chaoyang tires, this is their way of fulfilling their obligation to still sell the FX4 with Scorpions

So when the Ford Vehicle Order Tracking webpage/tool actually works, a customer can see the window sticker for the ordered Maverick. Lots of details across the top.

At the very bottom middle of the sticker is a bald date. Mine changes every once in a while, with no other apparent changes to any other data field on the sticker. So, having saved screen shots of the sticker, I have versions dated 1/7 and 1/21 and 1/25 and now 2/3 ...

Who here knows and will say: what does this date physically represent?

Dealer got back to me. I legitimately feel bad for some of these guys (the "good" dealers that communicate well and don't mark up vehicles) because this is their livelihood. FWIW, it's not just the Maverick but the chip issue is across all models. My sales guy just had his SUV order pushed back 90 days.

I would consider this a PR crisis for Ford, particularly after they announced, gleefully, a partnership with a chip manufacturer to alleviate this issue. Ford should offer some sort of 2nd quarter incentive for those that will end up waiting 7-11 months for their vehicle.

So what electronic modules are they waiting on?

We know the factory does not install chips, they install modules that contain multiple chips. If their supplier can't get the chips they can't make the modules to supply to the Factory.

Did anyone with a plain XL with no options, no CP360 or anything else get this delay? EcoBoost or Hybrid?
Plain XL Ecoboost here with production done last week here and now a 3 month delay
