What is the 1/2 inch diameter dome-like thing to the left of the rear-view mirror in the Lariat? I don't have a good picture of it, but you can see the area I'm talking about from looking at the circled area in the pic below.
- Interior motion detector, part of the security system?
- Day/Night sensor for the touchscreen display?
- Camera so the truck can tell me if I need to comb my hair?

I think that it’s the mic for the hands-free phone. But don’t bet a whole lot of bread on it. Just my semi-educated guess, based on having my truck for less than a week.

That sounded promising, but when I looked it up in the manual the only view that the system has is front facing. Page 250 in the manual shows the front facing camera in the windshield as the only one the system uses. I'm back to thinking that it's a light sensor.

I would think it’s venting for the camera system so as to allow hot air to vacate the camera area.

Ya and that sensor can be annoying if your driving in windy weather that pushes the truck around. But from what I can tell if your not using the lane departure assist (button on the end of left stick the same one for turn singal) then it won't do the alerts. I get alot of wind on the highways up here and was using the cruise control with the lane departure and it would pop up to pull over and take a break or say break os advised on my dash blocking my speedometer so I don't use it in WI dy weather anymore

I actually test front facing cameras for most OEMs with exception to Ford because most of there camera products come from another supplier (I intentionally left the suppliers out of it). My company has developed interior sensors to monitor driver awareness as the image is indicating. Without seeing it, I can't confirm, and I don't have my Lariat yet. But with Ford 360, I would assume it's and interior sensors. If this is the case, and it is like ours, it monitors body position and heat sensing. Nothing to be alarmed.

I think it's for the alarm system on the XLT and above. Ford includes an interior motion sensor as well as an inclination sensor (if someone tries to tow the truck or steal the wheels). The motions sensors in the f-150 are in a very similar spot.

If it was an interior sensor, I believe that it would be more symmetrical, meaning it would be on both sides of the “housing”.
Since it is only on the driver’s side, I still say it’s the speaker for the driver to speak to the hands-free phone, Siri, whatever.

The microphone is on the upper driver's A-pillar.

I think it is the sensor for when your windows are down and you have your keys if someone reaches in your car the alarm will go off. I hear a guy talking about it on a youtube video.

Ok, I’ll accept that. But the question remains……
Why is that housing behind the rear view mirror asymmetrical?
