This was always a market opportunity

1. Make a standard hybrid pickup with great gas mileage
2. Price it affordably

"If you build it, they will come."

for months now many posters on here keep insisting the vast majority of orders were hybrid. Mostly based on self reporting here on an enthusiast forum. I recognize difference between order and completing sales contract to take possession- not sure what benchmark is being used in articles here. ... No clue what the actual numbers are, but my gut feeling has always been demand for hybrid vs. ECO was vastly overstated. We'll see as time goes on.
The 13,258 YTD sales number is taken from the Dec 2021 sales report, which you can see here. It's different from the 25,880 YTD production number (see same post). And neither tells us much about the number of orders or reservations.

The proportion of hybrid sales is low in part because (1) the sales numbers include activity going back to the summer of 2021, and (2) hybrids were not permitted to be sold until December -- and still had to be shipped and delivered. So the fact that only 2,311 of the 2021 sales were hybrids really doesn't mean much.

My guess is that the ratio of hybrids will be significantly higher in reservations than in orders, simply because Ford cut off hybrid orders when it maxed out its capacity, but let ecoboost orders continue.

" Ford sold 13,258 Mavericks in the final three months of 2021, and 2,311 of those were hybrid. "

so much for the idea that hybrids were majority of all orders
they couldn't actually sell the Hybrid until about December 11th because it didn't get the EPA signoff - there were plenty hybrids that were manufactured but sitting in the desert - they couldn't actually be xported and sold to the customers who ordered them . In the meantime they were able to sell Ecoboosts well before that. That's why the actual sales numbers are skewed - the hybrid is about 70 percent of the total orders but they were limited until December to only actually selling ecoboosts.

The fusion hybrid was always tempting me to mod into a 4 door pickup. Now I don't have to!!!

Automaker builds a vehicle that provides massive utility in an affordable package. Is surprised when people buy it
Not to mention efficiency. Most trucks are big, heavy, powerful, expensive and thirsty, but useful and capable. The mav is smaller, but still large enough not to feel small, still reasonably powerful, efficient (especially the hybrid, but the eco isn't bad compared to the big ones) and reasonably priced.

The only surprising thing is that automakers haven't recognized that giving good value will drive sales.

My only fear is that Ford can't make enough money off the hybrids and will find excuses to raise prices.

lol....more media white noise.

No OEM spends millions/billions developing something they don't think will sell.

The numbers themselves are not beyond forecast. If we weren't stuck in the covid/supplier issues currently bottle-necking the industry, deliveries would be on par with sales, and it wouldn't be much of a story.

Yes hoping for some official news. Did do 40% of say 140,000 Mavericks and came up with 56,000 hybrids. We'll see what the true numbers are. When idk.

That's how many were sold, not ordered. By far, the hybrid will outsell the ecoboost once Ford starts producing enough of them.

not where I live they won't. My dealer has at last count, 5 ordered and/or sold Mavericks- including mine (ordered). I test drove the 1st 1 they received (Eco lariat FX-4) and that 1 sat a bit before a relative of ownership took it. It came back 1 week later to resell and hasn't been 1 on the lot since. NONE are driving around town. There hasn't even been great interest in or uptake of Bronco Sport around here either- none on the lot normally and only a couple seen around town. This is the land of work trucks.

Yeah, this is Deliveries.

I think they are talking about actual sales during those months, not orders. They weren't actually selling hybrids during all three of those months.

after the slow start producing/delivering in-house made eCVT, they were still building hybrids to order the whole time though and parking them waiting for 1st EPA numbers and then OKTB. I have seen NOTHING reputable to date showing a mix anywhere near 60 or 70% hybrids in the pipeline from order to production to built to shipped to delivered to end customer.

Okay if you say so but honestly I think you will find I am right given time.

I call bullshit on the "surprise" factor, They offered a new vehicle starting at $20,000, with at the time expected 40 mpg city.
Then the great and powerful FoMoCo is surprised at the interest and orders they generated?!!!

We're not really privy to Ford's internal projections are we? I'd say they guessed way low on total demand, and were equally off on the mix of hybrid/ecoboost that people wanted.

Has there ever been a hybrid that was even EQUAL in price to the non-hybrid version? When I first read the hybrid was cheaper I thought it was a typo.
