A customer should have the right to do whatever they choose with the vehicle once they own it. Anything else is just downright wrong.

Anyone who is OK with this crap should be refering to each other as comrade.

If it locks in my price with no stress I'd love it comrade. If I wanted to flip it I'd just find a dealer or brand who's fine with not doing that kind of deal

Well I'll be sheep dipped, It's about gosh darn time that Ford is reacting positively to the negative dealerships that are overcharging for vehicles we just need this to bleed into the Maverick yeah Jap slap these dealers around. You would certainly think with the threat of losing all of their allocations then they would straighten up and fly right

Ownership Retainer/No-sale clauses are not new; they are merely less common in the general retail space in a normal world. Pretty much anything you buy under contract can have stipulations to the purchase that include retaining ownership, restricting modification, and even who you resell it to. For example: Some real-estate clauses can prohibit sales of homesite properties to businesses - meaning they must be sold to individuals, and they can often require an owner-occupancy requirement - this is to combat the buy-to-rent madness going on. You also see similar agreements on timeshares where they have to be sold through the original purchaser as the broker, etc.).

I suspect we will see more of them until things settle back to being somewehat normal.

It's all just PR let's be real. They knew this would leak. Maybe they bust someone being real dumb and take a few allocations away but no way they cut off a dealer for a whole year

Pretty extreme sentiment to be honest. This is completely reasonable in my mind because in the end Ford is protecting their brand and identity. I do have a reservation for a Lightning with the main intention of flipping it unless I REALLY like it but if Ford does require a contract with a no sale for one year clause I'll cancel the reservation. In the end this protects consumers the most. Remember, Ford has the means to sue everyone in breach of a contract like this, I'm sure they have plenty of underutilized lawyers on retainer or payroll. I hope they do this to make sure the vehicles get in the hands of the true enthusiasts. Will we see this on a high volume low profit vehicle like the Maverick though? Doubtful

I'm okay with it if it means protecting end customers comrades from scummy dealers and scalpers.

The issue is, who owns the truck once you drive off the lot!!!
Not a lawyer but I think the issue is did Ford present the purchaser with a valid, enforceable contract and did the purchaser sign it without coercion. Otherwise, courts and judges tend to uphold those and punish those who don’t honor their contracts. Ford also refers dealerships to their own counsels to make sure contracts are crafted by subject matter experts on state an local laws, e.g. dealership counsel.

Will Ford run out and get an injunction for every one of those electric F150 sales before they happen, probably not. Will they hire attorneys to troll dmv records and file cases to claw back the money, maybe. Will they ever do that on a low cost maverick, seriously doubt it. They will just crank up production b/c it’s the lower end budget/value vehicle and they intend to make as many as they can sell. Ford probably views the Maverick the same way they did a focus, or an ecosport, entry level.

Ford is single handedly hurting their own reputation by giving larger allocations to the big dealers charging MSRP and or admin while punishing smaller dealers who are offering better pricing by cutting their allocations. Canceling my Bronco because of that. YOU ARE LOSING LOYAL CISTOMERS FORD! Wake the f**k up and see that.
