Thats the shitty thing. I paid the markup because they LITERALLY had people waiting in the lobby to buy it, with the markup, if I didnt. i wasnt going to wait another year to get my Maverick, but you really dont have any bargaining power when demand is so high.

What is the value of an item? What someone is willing to pay, and frankly there are plenty of people willing to pay the markup.
Yeah I agree as a buyer right now there's not much negotiating power for a in high demand product. Dealerships can easily tell you no to any price reduction and sell it to the next customer in line no problem. The key now is to find the dealership with the lowest markup. 2k markup seems to be pretty good compared to what some are marking up their inventory.

On a side note I'm glad I decided to get the Maverick even with the 2k markup. Having 2 vehicles with 150k miles I knew I needed to refresh one of my vehicles. A week after getting my Maverick my wife's car decided to start leaking substantial amounts of oil out of the rear main seal. So in hindsight it was the right move.

The worst of it for me was I walked in months ago, spent five minutes of their time on my order- asked zero questions. They did not have to sell it to me, they did not have to haggle with me, they did not have to explain it to me. I did all the work on this one and was happy to pay MSRP (which really, is more than reasonable), and somehow they still managed to get some slime in there. Ugh.

I refused to buy one last night from a local dealer because of the 5k markup. Ordered one with a diff dealer and got in writing and signed by me and the sales manager the msrp price. Im just going to have to wait it out now, but eff it. I believe offering msrp for their vehicle they are advertising at that price is more than fair.

Shop around until you find a place that will do it for msrp or maybe less. A tank of gas is still way less than these mark ups.

If they try to charge a markeup on my order, I'm going to raise hell. I ordered mine on launch day and it still hasn't been delivered. I've had my $500 deposit stuck in limbo for 6 months.
They tried to pull the crap with me when I picked up my Mav and I told them to knock it off. Think about it, if the order form means nothing, then the dealer would take delivery and ADM it to someone else without even calling you.

The Mav order form is the dealer's offer to you at a specific price. Your signature is acceptance of that price and that price only (BAIT). Don't let them bully you into thinking the price you agreed to means nothing (SWITCH). That would mean they committed fraud by submitting thousands of invalid orders to Ford. A contract does not need to be 10 pages of fine print to be valid. Someone wrote that he won a court case just based on promises made in text messages.

Check with your atty but basic business law says the order form's offer + your acceptance = Contract.

There is only a signature line for you so don't buy their story that to be valid they had to sign too. They tried to charge me extra, including $5500 in ex warranty, prepaid mainenance, dealer add ons. I kept telling them none of that is on my order and to take it all off. They gave in. I am sure they knew that switching the price to some random unknown amount later as a one-sided, unilateral change would not set well with a judge or people looking at Yelp.

Don't get mad and walk either, they will probably laugh as you leave. They will then have no obligation to you any more and can sell it to a sucker on the lot +15k if its the sold out hybrid.

If you paid $2k off the lot, then that is probably about as good as can be expected.
If you paid 2k above your original order, contact the owner and tell them you expect a refund check because you signed the final contract under duress after being told they would sell your truck to someone else. I did that on a overcharge and they did not want the publicity. Small claims court is pretty easy too they won't want a judge ruling against them, you will probably get your money back right after serving them the papers.

What if we never actually signed an agreement? When I ordered mine, I did it %100 online. I filled out a reservation form on the dealer's website, a dealer rep emailed me back, said they are requiring $500 deposits to put in the order and gave me the link to pay for it, I paid and he sent me the order information.

PS: My order paper says "This is not an invoice." I also have a copy of the window sticker which doesn't show any markup on it.

I went to Ford Cerritos just to check out the maverick they had on the lot. I have mine on order at Ford Buena Park.

The sales manager said they have a 5k markup on all Mavericks where the original buyer backs out and they sell the same day.

Best thing to do is, but not everyone will do it, is to tell them to stuff it and walk out. If enough people would do that, they would get the hint, especially after it sits on their lot for long enough and they have to pay their “interest” money for it to just sit there.
It goes back to the simple supply and demand. The demand is extremely high right now, and the supply is low, so you have the choice to either pay or wait.

Ummmm....dont ya think that "What is the price/markup?" should have been like the FIRST question you asked?

And maybe get them to memorialize your pricing conversation in an e-mail? It wouldn't be binding.....but it would have made it hard for them to try to pull a fast one upon delivery........

And if they tried to mark-up....then you could have put in your order with someone else at MSRP.

Now you are just sitting there with your fingers crossed.

Best of luck to you my friend!!

It was dealer ordered... So it was their lot vehicle. It was the trim I wanted and had the tow package so I was happy 👍

Has anyone experianced Dealer Markup.I just seen a 55k Santa Cruz
A dealership in Maryland is marking up Mavericks an average of $4-5K, even after an initial price was negotiated...unethical at best! One has even taken Bronco's to auction to get as much as a $10K markup. Destroys the Oval Blue image!

The Warnings were all over this site for at least three months.

Those who ordered and didn't have a "Buyer's Order" signed by both the buyer and the dealership's sales/general manager with all costs listed and a total agreed upon out-the-door price then you were just leaving yourself open to having ADM, Dealer Add-On Costs or other expensive dealer fees added to the order on delivery.

Many people here ignored the warnings. They said their dealer was the good guy that they trusted the dealership. Now we see the consequence of those actions.

Reputable dealerships will have no problem in having your verbal agreement/DORA turned into a "Buyer's Order".

Bad dealerships will make excuses that you don't need it and will hit you up with excessive costs upon delivery.

Because of the warnings I went to my dealership and had a"Buyer's Order" done with what was agreed upon when I ordered and signed by myself and the general sales manager. No issues whatsoever doing this. Doing the "Buyer's Order" took about 15 minutes and well worth the peace of mind for me.

Upon delivery I paid exactly what was agreed upon.

Everyone here without a "signed buyers order" is tempting fate that they won't be screwed with add-on fees when their Maverick is delivered.

What's the zip code if you aren't able to identify the actual dealership? Thanks.
