People in NW Indiana just went thru a 2 WEEK stretch without power, thanks to storms that devastated the infrastructure. People that had them were sure happy they were able to survive on gasoline-powered generators. Probably not too many of those utility repair trucks running on electrons.

For me, I have too much family, and take too many trips, that clock in at thousands of miles. I'm not stopping and twiddling my thumbs every 300 miles.

I can do it, I agree with that part. I admit I don't want to do it. I just want to point out that doesn't make me lazy as you're implying.

You clarified you can do it but don't want to do it. Fair statement.

I understand why people don't.
I used to. Then I stopped. I will probably go back to it.

Bottom line is people are lying when they say they can't. I think that's an equally fair statement for 99.95% of people.

Electrify America is owned by VW. They spent $billions installing charging stations as part of the diesel gate settlement. Remember? They got caught selling diesel autos that did not meet the government emissions standards. In other words they were selling dirty diesel. Now they are all green and saving the planet.

In all fairness when I had my Chevy Volt's, I hated getting in and out of them. I did liked the drivetrain. I plugged them anytime they were at home.
In my opinion Best of both worlds. Fill the tank in 4 minutes they had 400 mi range. When I was still working I drove them during the week never bought gas.

However, your statement is a false narrative.

Some people had 300 miles of gasoline in their tanks at the time of the storm. Other people had 300 miles of electricity. Equal. No advantage one over the other.

When there's no power to recharge, there's no power to pump gas. Equal. No advantage one over the other.

Sure you can "gravity feed" gasoline into your tank. But where? Have you seen it? Where do you see above ground tanks that even have ability to gravity feed car tanks? Lets say 3% of people have ability to gravity feed gasoline without power. I say 3% of people have solar or wind or home battery banks to recharge without grid power. Again, equal. No advantage one over the other.

I could make this list longer. Do I need to?

Exactly. I would not buy an EV until my home 120v electricity could charge it sufficiently & economically. Yep, I’m lazy & cheap.

I don’t drive much. If the Fathom can plug into my garage 120 outlet - it might make sense. Faster than my EB Although safety is my top concern. For me and other drivers & pedestrians!

I used to "opportunity charge" while out and about. See an opportunity and take advantage. Did not often "sit around" waiting for charging.

Went to a movie with charge cords in the lot? I put in 2 hours of charging. Went to Target for an hour? Put in 1 hour of charging. Almost always free as Target and Theaters saw it as a customer perk and it helped get you in the door. 75 miles for free that day and I was there anyway.

Pro Tip: you are not required to fully charge or fully drain your EV. In fact, keeping it in the middle is best.

I posted it before. Good or bad it's an example of what can be done.
Granted it's not fancy or real safe but if the storms coming this guy can get out of Dodge. If his tank is full he's probably got about it close to 800- 900 mi in range.

Power cells hanging on the wall of his garage isn't going to do a damn thing. I'll bet you didn't take that driver any longer than 12 minutes to fill everything up.

If you have hours to waste drive take an EV on vacation.
Using a supercharger is like buying premium when you fill up.
Driving a Ford Mustang Mach-E from Las Vegas to Ogden, Utah (~450–470 miles) takes approximately 7.5 to 9 hours, including 1–2 charging stops. While driving time is roughly 6.5–7 hours, 45–90 minutes of charging is typical, generally making the trip 1–1.5 hours longer than in a gas-powered car.
Typical Trip Details
Distance: Approximately 450–470 miles, primarily via I-15 N.
Driving Time: \(\approx \) 6.5 - 7 hours (without stops).
Charging Stops: 1–2 stops (e.g., St. George, UT, Cedar City, UT, or Provo, UT).
If I leave home after breakfast. I sure as hell am not ready to eat 90 minutes later in St George or another hour later in Cedar City.
Or go to a movie.
100% charge times. Or do you charge 80% and stop more often.
Total Time: \(\approx \) 7.5 - 9 hours.
Charging Time: 30–45 minutes per stop (DC Fast Charging).
None of that allows for any extra touring along the way.
