Well, God may have to love computers, but at best, I'm only willing to get along with them...

In my 25 XL, backing up with the tailgate down, the truck lets me know it isn't happy, as it vociferously complains both visually with messages, and with those "something bad could happen" sounds because the truck designers apparently don't trust me to protect the guy behind the wheel who also happens to be me...

The Maverick is the first modern vehicle I have ever driven where the brakes feel inconsistent. Sometimes they grab too hard, other times too soft. You go to stop and realize that youre gonna have to stomp on them halfway through.

I dont have this issue with any of our other newer vehicles. Just the Mav. The Mavbrid feels even worse, somehow.
One time when I was backing into my driveway, everything locked up, and I looked down and the transmission was in "Park." I have no idea how it happened, and I didn't have the tailgate down, and it has never happened again.
I've had the gauge cluster forget that the tach was enabled, that the speedo gauge was enabled, and that I had the trip open. More recently, the infotainment has started needing an extra touch to actually get settings like fan speed to adjust.

It feels like the software on this truck is degrading in real time.

Hard to explain,
At work on the property I may load my bed super full with stuff with big bags of stuff, lamps, small bits of furniture etc.

Only sometimes but often, with the tail gate DOWN, rear camera looking down,
When I’m backing up slowly nothing around to hit.
When I ease on the brakes, very softly
It locks them up thinking I’m about to hit the ground or some such nonsense.

The odd part is this does not happen every time.

Nickel for your thoughts ?
Speculation’s,
Wild guesses,

Anyone have any real knowledge on this ?

My new 2026 Tremor does this,
But here is a picture of my 2024 loaded up tail gate down.
It NEVER behaved in such a manner.

When I fill my bed like that I put the tailgate in the 'partially down' position so crap is less likely to fall off. I've never had that condition you describe. You don't have that automatic parking brake/hill hold feature on do you?

I think it’s because the brake booster is electric. There’s definitely some software gremlins in these trucks, lol.

I’ve never had it stop me while backing up with the tailgate down but at least now I know what to disable if need be lol

I don't disagree, and I'm well aware of the well intentioned rationale for nanny state features.
Some of them are actually helpful, like backing out of a parking spot where land barges are on both sides and it's impossible to see cross traffic, or the blind spot detection system.

in my case, I don't take it personally, but I am considering eliminating some of the more obnoxious "features" with Forscan, once I run out of some items on the burning platform priority list.

I complained in the past that my collision avoidance system alerts when vehicles are turning right when there is no chance of a collision and it has never sounded when a vehicle is moving to my left. Well, the other day it went off when a vehicle was turning left for the first time. I already had my foot lightly on the brake in anticipation when it went off. Scared the crap out of me - what the hell is going on, i thought. Collision avoidance my ass! Driver distraction system would be more appropriate.

Sometimes distracting, other times outright dangerous.
On a different (non-Ford) owner's site someone noted that while on the interstate, a plastic grocery bag was drifting across the driver's lane and the car went into full panic brake collision prevention mode.
Fortunately there wasn't a semi behind him or his story would have only been available as an accident report.
This was not the only time something similar was reported.

CC assist has caught me and Cathy a few times, I have kept it set at full distance. But we think we will get used to it. But it does a fantastic job on long downhill descents of keeping the truck controlled at the speed set.

I drive on Adaptive CC often, always on three car following distance when I’m
running 45-65 mph in light traffic.

When it over reacts, over over compensates I’m quick with my hat switch and simply thumb on coast.

I still run full distance, but do the same, kind of instinctive.
