Weirdness

Hard to explain,
At work on the property I may load my bed super full with stuff with big bags of stuff, lamps, small bits of furniture etc.

Only sometimes but often, with the tail gate DOWN, rear camera looking down,
When I’m backing up slowly nothing around to hit.
When I ease on the brakes, very softly
It locks them up thinking I’m about to hit the ground or some such nonsense.

The odd part is this does not happen every time.

Anyone have any real knowledge on this ?

My new 2026 Tremor does this,
But here is a picture of my 2024 loaded up tail gate down.
It NEVER behaved in such a manner.

My 2025 tremor does this when I’m reversing down my driveway as well. Curious to hear what other ppl have to say also! I think when your tailgate is down, there might be a way to deactivate the rear cam?

I wonder if the tailgate being down is enough to confuse the sensor and cause it to slam the brakes. My Mav doesn't have this feature. The Expedition does, but the "tailgate" is not long enough to cause that issue. However, we have never had it trigger while backing down the driveway. Just when we get close to my in-laws' bushes.

The Expedition also sits a foot higher, so there's that to consider.

One time when I was backing into my driveway, everything locked up, and I looked down and the transmission was in "Park." I have no idea how it happened, and I didn't have the tailgate down, and it has never happened again.

It will shift into park under 3mph if your door is ajar and no seat belt fastened.

I haven't had to drive with the tailgate down but sometimes my Rear Brake Assist will engage when I'm backing into my garage. Like ScottyC suggests, try turning it off in the Driver Assist setting.

Same here.... or even at times in parking lots.

Ditto! Got out of my 2024 Lariat to get the mail. Locked up one time over a year ago. I laid a newspaper over the console before getting out. Don't see how that action could be related.....

This may be your answer:

I don't think I unbuckled, because I never do that before I stop. I didn't open my door, either. At least it hasn't happened since.
