I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

My 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid (67,156 mi) recently developed a Check Engine Light, along with a noticeable drop in fuel economy.
The dealership diagnosed the issue as a failed EVAP canister purge valve and replaced it.
While it was there, I also had a fuel system service performed.

When you fill your tank and it clicks off don’t keep trying to put more in. That extra half gallon can saturate your EVAP canister and or clog your purge valve as you now know.

This Is The Way.

I doubt Ford will ever tell you that because they like making money on service work.

Why does it say
"wondering if evap canister is bad again"?
That was my comment when I scheduled the service visit. I thought the canister went bad. Had it replaced at 38,000 mi and again around 64,000 mi without overfilling it

“Overfilling” has a few definitions here on the forum. Most agree it means stop at first click. Some hybrid owners swear they can go beyond that first click safely. Some old timers don’t consider it overfilled until gas starts running down the side of your truck;)

Ive always done this:
First Click (Automatic Shut-Off):
The first click is the point at which the fuel pump nozzle automatically stops dispensing fuel because the vehicle's evaporative emissions (EVAP) system has detected that the fuel tank has reached its engineered maximum fill level.

How would the fuel pump nozzle know the EVAP system has detected the tank has reached max level?

That nozzle ain't that smart - neither is the EVAP system that communicative.

Back in the days of paying cash at the "Service station." Old guys who didn't like to carry change, got into the habit of rounding up to the nearest dollar.
And those who are in the 800 mile a tank club. 😯

The 800 Mile Club can turn into a 800 Dollar Repair Club - although the OP followed the manual!

I had that happen on my 23 a couple of weeks ago, and I have never topped up the tank or somehow otherwise overfilled it. I'm wondering if there is a design defect that is being misinterpreted as user-caused damage.

I understand the valve in there is lubricated by fuel that needs to move thru it ...

How many miles did you have on your truck when it happened? Also, what was the mpg when it happened? Just trying to figure out what would be considered a noticable drop.

I bet you’re right. Our EVAP systems are complex & plastic. Even if you don’t get below a 1/4 tank and stop at first click - they still crap out sometimes drat!
