That's cool. I'm not gonna knock the product, or mention competitors here, but...

Let's just say hypothetically that I'd be totally willing to take a Sawzall to my front bumper and go to town if I saved $500 buying an intercooler elsewhere.
I’ve been staring at this for almost two months now.

So before I make a decision on which IC I’m buying, what I want to know is how the shutters function and what their benefits and drawbacks are.
My guess is they keep things consistent when it comes to warmup and overall IATs.
What will the difference be if the shutters were never there in the first place?

To begin with, what and how much benefit are the shutters?

As I understand the CVF is preferable for running higher boost. With normal operation I’ve read there can be a loss of pressure with the CVF but haven’t had time to research to confirm this.

Those are the questions it comes down to: do I really want/need the shutters regardless of which IC I install, and will stock boost performance suffer going with CVF? Because, yes, for the $$$$$ may as well just go CVF.

As far as installation is concerned, Carlitos, from your post about the audio upgrade you sound very capable. Maybe mechanical isn’t much your forte experience, but for as knowledgeable as you are with electrical/electronics/audio, this intercooler install would be a walk in the park on a cool summer day.

As I understand, you don’t need to disconnect the A/C. Someone correct me if that’s inaccurate.

On my F150 they made, no difference, I could find in IAT2 coolant temps. I pulled them after recording a bunch of readings and on or off no change.

They have been off for years. I live in WI so yeah winter and it is not garaged. Starts fine heats up quick, no problem. This F150 peaks above 22 PSI and shows no leaks. It is nowhere near the air conditioning, and the Maverick installs seem straight forward just less room more parts in the way.

Thank you for the input!

Makes me wonder Ytf/wtf engineers were thinking.

And why Ford would bother with producing their IC. Seems like the only concern now with Mishimoto vs CVF is pressure drop.
I’m in MI, so I’ll be seeing close to what you are weather wise.

My own opinion is Ford bean counters found a fraction of MPG here and there add up in terms of corporate EPA brownie points. Blocking airflow has long been used in racing to improve or reduce air flow drag.

Your Atkinson engine is normally aspirated (no turbo) and does not need Intercooler.

Normal air is fine for your hybrid. But the turbo on the EB pressurizes air & heats it up. An Intercooler brings the temperature down a bit before it enters the intake.

There are aftermarket air filters for the hybrid that might improve the air flow into your intake. They are much less expensive ($50) than an intercooler ($1000) and something you could change yourself
I can see this being a question related to towing w the hybdid? Seems like some would say this is for racing an ecoboost, but really- how many race a Maverick?

Very true about towing - where an Intercooler will be most beneficial. Many folks, like me, see it as a performance mod lol. Although I only race in my imagination - folks racing their Maverick’s in real life are having a blast!

When towing with a Hybrid, however, the intake air is not pressurized & heated like the EB. Hybrid’s intake air is perfectly cool already.

However, the Hybrid’s eCVT needs cooling when towing. The 4K tow package adds that to the Hybrid (not EB) - but an even more upgraded trans cooler might be beneficial to a hybrid? 94% more beneficial as some would argue against:)

These high dollar toyz,
Ford wisely builds expensive toyz for the people with more disposable income than any of us.

It’s smart business.

This doesn't really answer the question, but I don't think anyone willing to replace the OEM intercooler should care too much about the shutters in the end. Of course, Ford wouldn't put them there without a reason - but IMHO if you are upgrading the intercooler, you probably have better reasons. ;)

Because, yes, for the $$$$$ may as well just go CVF.
Well, I didn't want to come out and say it for Mishimoto's sake - but yes. I had been waiting on this to be released, simply because regardless of how you feel about cutting into a perfectly good truck - *not" cutting into it is simply less work. I don't think this is "$500" less work.

Appreciate the vote of confidence, but mostly I just try to know my limitations and stay in my lane. Forty-plus years of shadetree-level installing car stereos and wrenching on cars/bikes suggests I will be fine, indeed. Frankly I have 4-5 other things to do in there once I get ready to pull the front bumper, and that is the hardest part, if you can call it that. Youtube tutorials abound.

That is correct; none of the intercoolers I've seen require fiddling with refrigerant.

Except the Tremor is the priciest Maverick - and the Intercooler does not fit the Tremor. Why? Because of your fancy painted high dollar tow hooks and upgraded suspension bits.

Pot meet Kettle:)

There's a thread on here where a guy got the Mishimoto Intercooler to fit into his Tremor

The pricing is understandable considering Buschur's and Fast Mavericks Intercooler both came out at $899. But in this economy? Good luck. I could never be happy the 1-2" gap on the CVF, though.

Oops…my apologies MISHIMOTO, honestly it slipped my mind you started this thread.

I was actually planning on purchasing your IC before this thread unraveled. I do really like the construction and finish of the IC you have produced, and it’s a great option for those concerned with keeping the manufacturer warranty!

It's all about the MPG. It's the reason for the auto-start/stop, the reason for the crappy low-mileage tires, it's the reason that hardly anybody makes a sedan any more, its the reason for many things. Government gives them a target number, they do everything they can to reach that number at the expense of everything else.
