I predict this will be a trendy little toy 4th/5th car for affluent customers. Something to show-off & virtue signal. The utility market is also pretty limited. I think it will be a short life. Sorry Slate, RIP...

Reminds me of the old Nissan Hardbody small truck, they were everywhere back in the 90s/00s. They were dirt cheap base model but pretty much everything was an option from the radio to the rear bumper.

You don't need a garage or an expensive charger to recharge at home. 120V cord is slow, but will work. If I bought one, I'd charge it in the street in front of my house. That junk is not going in my garage.

It does come with AC though, and tows the same as a base Maverick. 2,000#. To tow twice as much requires 4K and AWD.

As far as the lack a radio, I've never turned mine on in my Mavericks. I just stream from Spotify. Bluetooth speakers and I'd be good.

I will stick with my Maverick though.

So Slate is 2' shorter, has a 5' bed and weighs 200+pounds more than a Maverick XL- other than being electric why is this a compelling buy for a small truck with 2 doors, a 5' bed stripped to Yugo levels, plastic unpainted body and limited EV range (200 miles). For the 2' shorter length, you should at least get a 6' bed with 2 doors.

cuz more than $5000 cheaper.
also significantly lower operating and maintenance costs.

Certainly not for everyone, but I sure don't need a back seat. But if I wanted one, that's a user-bolt-on option. As for wheel appearance, that's kind of an odd thing to focus on for a cheap ride. HELLS YEAH, 6' bed would be the way to go. Wish the Mav had a 2dr cab like the old Toyota Extracab (little fold down seats) and a 6' bed, but I don't know if unibody construction allows that.

Bill, where you getting the $5,000 amount from? I see a difference of $2195 between slate and an XL
I agree with you on the operating and maintenance cost.
My 23 Maverick has cost me around $130 for 3 oil changes that's it so far.

Who said it had no AC?
It has AC, power door locks and cruise control standard.

Looks like they're not offing a power window kit (maybe later?) so slow roll-ups for now (deal killer),
and also no power mirrors and no blind-side monitoring (double deal killers).

It wouldn't take much to make the SLATE more appealing to me, but the price and the lack of comfort and convenance features puts me off. Even if I did drink the Koolaid and wanted one, I'd still wait at least 1, perhaps 2 years, so they can get the bugs out and fix what needs fixing'.

If I lived on a farm and was never going to drive it on public roads….maybe. Otherwise the Maverick is leaps and bounds better.
