Anyone come across a steering knuckle where the bearing is built-in to the knuckle? All parts places show a press-in bearing not the one I have. Any useful information like part numbers, service options are appreciated.

Press new one into spindle an hub. The rear Awd has a bolt on bearing but the front is a press on.

This is for a Ford Focus But the same idea.

I wish I had a picture for comparison with the supposed replacement. The press-in bearing that's supposed to fit is way too large for the hole and structured differently.

I would take the spindle to a shop and have them do it for you. Then you can put it back together? FWD an AWD have the same part number.

A question: how many miles on your Maverick? Did you do a lot of high-speed driving or haul heavy loads with it? I have memories of my '96 Contour GL, which ate wheel bearings every 50k.

The replacement bearing presses in from the other side of your pic. It seems too large because you are looking at the side that has a rim (shoulder) in the knuckle bore to keep the bearing shell from moving inboard. The rust-colored part in your pic is the knuckle, the shiny part is the inner part of the bearing, as it looks like in your pic that you have extracted half of the existing bearing from its shell on the inboard side.

You need to press out the hub from the bearing then press the bearing out from the knuckle both in the outboard direction. The video posted above by @BK007 shows what I mean.

If you look at the pics posted by @BK007 you can see part #5 is a snap ring - this part prevents the bearing "shell" from walking out of the knuckle, and it's on the hub (part #2) or "outboard" side.

If you try to do this without a hydraulic press like in the video you're going to have a very bad time. As advised best to take it to a shop and have them do it.

If you do it yourself or to check a shop's work

Don't press the bearing in backward!

These bearings have an integrated magnetic ABS tone ring on only one side. If you press it in backward, your ABS and traction control will fail instantly, and you'll have to buy a new bearing to fix it.

The Fix: Before pressing, touch a small paperclip to both sides of the bearing. The side that attracts the paperclip is the magnetic side—make sure it faces the ABS sensor!

Or you can get the entire knuckle used at LKQ I have bought a lot of used parts from them over the years. Save time an money!
