Hello all I recently had the rear drive unit replaced on my 2024 Ford Maverick XLTAWD tow, it has fixed most of my issues, but I’m still having a clunk when shifting every hundred shifts or so, it feels like it’s below my seat or the backseat and no, there’s nothing under the backseat in the compartment.
Bottom line is I’m looking PTU fluid and transmission fluid just to be sure everything’s OK. The Ford quick lane is telling me that they can only do a flush and not a drain and fill but other shops are saying they can do a drain and fill. Ive heard bad things from flushes, should I trust ford or go to my other shop?

Goto the other shop! You don't want to flush an 8F35 trans. It has a sealed internal filter that you cannot change without dropping the transmission and tearing it down, so a flush is definitely the wrong move. Make sure they use Mercon ULV fluid and nothing else! Here is a great video of the 8F35.

Your dealer/quicklane doesn't know what they are talking about...

You can drain and fill the transmission, but do not flush it. The PTU is a drain and fill too (PTU is maybe a 20 minute job tops).

Why not flush it?

Flushing it can introduce new problems such as clogging passages in the valve body and removing clutchpack material that was still helping the clutches grip. Essentially it's like taking the waste and wear material that was safely stored in the filter and re-dispersing it through the entire transmission.

I see , that makes sense just did a fluid change today had some metal flakes in it. I might change the fluid out in another 10,000 miles. Need my transmission full liquid Moly 🤙

Not a bad idea! But yes, just a simple drain and refill is all you need!

I confronted them about it cause I know a drain and fill is ez. They admitted they weren’t sure why that guy said that and that they would get me in for a drain and fill asap.

Is the quoted price for the drain and fill cheaper than the flush?
