You would want to do your own research, but I believe generating electricity with fossil fuels, transmitting it, and consuming it in an EV is still more efficient (even if it is close) than burning gasoline in an ICE vehicle. Throw in the portions of US electricity that comes from hydro, wind, solar and even nuclear, and that efficiency difference becomes greater.

The manufacturing and disposal phases of the Hybrid are more environmentally costly than the ICE. The savings in fuel usage, however, can make the Hybrid less environmentally costly in total.

With our Mavericks, where the difference in mpg’s is not huge - the total ecological cost is probably similar in my opinion.

I’m guessing the profit margin on an EB is higher than the Hybrid - but the higher sales volume of the Hybrid makes up for that.

Hopefully, Ford won’t be selling the base $30,000 EV at a loss.

Although Toyota cancelled the ICE only option on two of its biggest sellers - Camry & RAV4.

The Accountants at Toyota are known to be pretty sharp…

No one said they are being forced to buy an EV. Just that they are feeling a push in the direction.

You are saying that feeling is unwarranted. Understood.

Being pushed towards EV's and FORCED to buy an EV are 2 different things. Ford has promised to sell ICE vehicles for as long as people still buy them. Nothing is forced. That's why this EV truck will be sold alongside the HEV and Turbo Mavericks. It's just an additional choice.

Also the Sienna. Sienna has been hybrid only for 5 years. They have crazy high resale value.

mass BEV adoption requires 4 things:

1 lower cost of entry
2 lower charging times- same time to charge as to fill up with gas
3 infrastructure that allows you to pull into any gas station and go to a charging station
4 350 miles of range on a charge

we're almost at that point right now on all 4. I think by 2030 it will be an obvious choice for most people in Merkuh to have an EV. Keep in mind that the vast majority of Merkuns live in cities and drive less than 30 miles a day RIGHT NOW. Obviously technology you can go out and buy tomorrow isn't going to be all that great for rural people and those who are dumb enough to live more than an hour's drive from their work and refuse to use public transit. But with the current fuel prices in Merkuh, which are still cheaper than the rest of the developed world, people with EVs are sitting pretty.

YES, it would be more efficient use of fossil fuels to use them to make electricity that is then used to charge EVs. This has been shown time and again on flow charts and studies. Train locomotives are electric; they just burn diesel to operate the generators onboard. It's a more efficient use of diesel. Industrial scale power plants are far more efficient than a little 4-8cyl engine at getting power out of a gallon of fuel. AND a lot cleaner emissions.

If Ford had this available RIGHT NOW for $30k, it would be selling like hotcakes. Funny phrase; I never thought of hotcakes (pancakes) as being in super high demand...but here we are. Shiver me timbers, I hope this doesn't get anyone's knickers in a twist.

If it is Maverick size, has a mid gate and goes 300 miles for $30,000 it will be the Maverick debut round 2. Good luck getting one for <$40,000.

The points that burns my biscuit are threefold.

1: charging away from home costs a shit ton more and the guv is up charging EV’s I hear.

2: Range under load, A/C blasting, truck bed with 500 pounds of crap in it.
Heating up the cabin and keeping the lithium warm in the winter often cuts range by 50%

3:All EV’s should have a battery platform that allows the customer to add cells at home.
Going on a trip, get that second battery plugged in next to the primary, at home in the garage.

OR

Like you plug in a Ryobi 40 volt.
Say each one adds 25 miles of range. Plug in four, you should have slots for that.
Then throw four more in the truck for swap outs.
Stock range 350 miles, plus 100 miles for the four packs you plugged in.
Plus the extra packs you charge.

Take your eight removables in your hotel room with a charger or chargers to fully charge your packs.
Charger or chargers, plus the 8 batteries should all fit in a couple of boxes hauled in the room on a small foldable. luggage hand cart.

550 Mile total range is possible,
At least 450.
That and a quick one hour charge at your lunch stop should net a total daily range of
600 to 700 miles.

We’re talking about pick up truck here.
I have me a small digital gas generator in the back and a five gallon Jerry can of gas.
For the out back.

A customer could buy the extra small charger or chargers and the batteries along the way as needed. One at a time.

Lots if pre existing tech out there.
