40 months of ownership , no melting .
I don't think I've ever deliberately turned them on .

I t may just be the photo but the top of the chrome piece above the bulb looks like mine which is slightly rippled. Based on personal experiences I think mine is a result of the plating process of the plastic. It looks a little melted, warped, whatever but the clear lenses shows no heat issues. I decided if and when mine melts through I will order a LED replacement assembly online. Until then I won't climb into the bed to look at it. It looks great from the ground ;) .

Luckily mine showed no signs of distress, but I decided to go ahead and swap the bulbs out to LED. I went with red for the center, but all the factory bulbs were the same so there is no reason you couldn't just order all in white. You will need a T20 bit, and take care because they don't give you any play in the wires! The results were worth it, the new bulbs are much brighter and whiter.

Update!

The dealer did replace the 3rd brake housing under warranty, but creased the headliner and left dirty fingerprints on it ☹

And then..

The newly replaced 3rd brake is already melting again!

I actually already own the Lasfit LEDs, but haven't installed them in case it causes my local Ford shop to not honor the warranty repair.

Did you look at it immediately after the dealer replaced it? I'm curious if they are coming that wy from the plating process. Second question is why they needed to mess with the head liner?

I did jump up in the bed and look at the new ones with one of the dealer techs after they replaced it, but I must not have taken any pictures because I can't find them. The tech said they had to pull down the headliner to do the swap, I expect there's a power connector hidden up there.

They could have just swapped out the lens by removing the existing 3 light sockets. But that isn't how the YouTube video the tech watched said to do it 🤣 . I replaced the cargo bulbs in mine with Sylvania Zevo bulbs for better lighting. While doing it I did not see any melting in the third brake light area. It is on much more than the cargo lights so I was surprised at that.

I missed that it's both sides. That's interesting.
I'm replying to myself lol. I installed the Lasfits recently, and when replacing the bulbs I could see my housing was at the very beginning of melting (very slightly distortion), so I'm glad I replaced them.

Hopefully you have better luck with your LasFit cargo lights than I have had with mine.
As you can see from the picture the driver side one is just about burned out.

Yeah, I got them before I saw someone posted about the Sylvanias. If/when they burn out, I'll replace them with the Sylvanias.

Glenn I put in the sylvania zevo leds. They are so much brighter for walking into the garage at night after exiting the Maverick. Of course I haven't tried to walk in before exiting
