2022 FX4 Maverick- I f out the hard way that my parking aid alert is not functioning. I was in the passenger seat with someone else driving. I wasn’t paying attention and unfortunately they weren’t paying enough attention and they backed into my neighbors escape.

Only then did I realize afterwards that there was no audible alert before contact.

I can’t be sure how long this has been going on for; I’m a busy guy and I have ADHD.

I suspect it could be as far back as when I had the truck at the dealer for the battery and backup camera recall.

I’m currently perturbed the hell off because when I spoke to the service advisor I have been dealing with for my previous trips to the dealership (decent guy, treated me right each time) he told me “there’s lots of buttons on the steering wheel” basically implying I could have accidentally switched it off.

Dude, NO.

I‘ve checked through all my menu options on dash and through the infotainment screen.
I found the trailer sway control option and learned I need to switch it off each time I restart the truck, which is really annoying.

But there is no external button anywhere in my vehicle that specifically operates this feature.

My owners manual does not show any option to control the feature.

So I suspect there is an issue from when they performed the backup camera recall.

Just checking if anyone else has experienced similar.

Yes, my truck does have the feature. I remember specifically it sounding in the past, I just can’t believe I didn’t notice it not working. Probably because when I drive the truck I don’t really need the alert, the backup camera is more than sufficient for me. I’m a good enough driver I don’t even need the backup camera but I like it and it helps. But I’m angry that the alert isn’t there and I feel like it’s the dealerships’ fault that it isn’t working and kinda like it’s their fault the accident happened because despite the driver not paying attention to all three mirrors AND the display, if the alert was working, I DEFINITELY would have noticed and stopped the driver before they hit the escape. (The escape has a small dent, my bumper is smooshed in at the corner. My truck is worse than the escape)

Anyway, anyone have similar experience or any leads?
Thnx!

If you had the backup camera recall which affected the Connected Touch Radio then I suspect you don't have a Lariat w/ Luxury Package which was necessary for the backup distance sensors.

Are you 12 years old?

it's the dealership's fault that you and someone backed into someone's car?

I would be willing to bet that the 2022 Maverick did not have the actual backup proximity alert, My 2022 did not. There's a faint sound when in reverse, not a backup sensor and alarm.

Always looking to assign blame rather than accept responsibility..

I can tell this is going to be a post and run kind of deal from OP. It is these types of posts that I wish @Administrator would require new users to either have a 72 hour hold before they can create a forum topic, or they have to introduce themselves in a new member thread before being able to post a topic.

As others have stated, you do not have that feature.

Welcome to the Forum.🤝

Sorry about your misfortune.
If you are able. Please, post a full picture of your Mavericks rear bumper, including the damage.
Thank you.

Don't we have enough rules already?
No new rules.

Please, post a picture of your Mavericks rear bumper.
I think this place is pretty wide open. Just no politics.

OP isn’t coming back but I bet his bumper cover could be pushed out with some heat and pressure

Good day

If the OP does return, and reads the replies, only they can post a pic of their bumper (a la Glen Baker LLC post...to see if they have the sensors installed, I assume?). Or confirm they have the Luxury pkg which includes the sensors and audible warning.

From what my quick search indicates as well as a quick look into what I hope was the right manual, the FX pkg doesn't come with the rear backing assist in a 2022.

The manual also indicated that you can not shut the system off if you have a coded key...though the sound can be affected by the sound setting on the audio system.

So, via their audio system, if they do have the appropriate luxury pkg/Co-Pilot package on their FX Mav, the sound may have been affected negatively in this way.

Of course, what is a post without some photo's of Maverick Manual pages that everyone likes to see, eh? And is familiar with in how to use it....right? 😉

Have a good one,

Andy

🤣ok,ok, that jives with why the option isn’t on my display!
No need to post pics.
No, now that someone mentioned it, the obvious sensors for a backup system are not present.

Thank you all for your input!

And certainly, some part of me deep down is definitely 12 years old🙄

I want saying it they were at fault; CLEARLY the driver should have been more aware! They have driven the truck before. They are elder, but not incapable. They have no issue driving their Cadillac CT6 400.

Yes, I wrote the post so that it could be took as I wasn’t accepting responsibility, but geez, that escalated quickly😝

Honestly, I could swear I remember having a proximity alert, but I’ve only driven my truck about three weeks out of the last 5 months of the year. Owned it since May 2024.

I would say more but apparently there are some here that rush to harsh judgment, which jives with my past experience on other enthusiast forums (admittedly, I’ve been that guy myself)

I love my truck and even before creating an account and my first post I’ve found this site helpful.

So you lost the bet, this OP is here to stay!😩🤓😈

And, yes, I did read before posting, and noticed this wasn’t supposed to be a standard feature on my model, so thanks for clearing up my confusion!

Despite the seeming ignorance of my post, I have more automotive knowledge than most. I’ve done everything from build Chevy crate 572’s to cylinder head work at Livernois Motorsport to Dyno testing LS7 and LC3 engines to producing brakes for Cobalt. Sometimes simple observations are missed. Hell, I’ve even been the one to ask how did you not know/realize that to someone who knows WAY more than I do about the business on something simple (of course the 2008 civic si has a cabin air filter! My SVT Contour had one; damn near every car since that era had one. Come on, man!)

Again, thanks everyone for entertaining my ADHD moment.

Peace

@710 - Your user name is upside down oil !

Your post reminds me that the problem with reliance on convenience features and safety systems often means a problem when they fail, or in your case, when you or your driver thought you had a feature but didn't. It's better to pretend the features don't exist and let them help out on the occasion where the driver makes a mistake, or something out of the ordinary happens...

Anyway, welcome to the forum and although this advice is a bit late: Drive Your Own Truck !

yes, absolutely, it can be worked back.
unfortunately it’s not the first time that same corner needs said work, and yes’m the first time it was me driving that caused it to indent😫

I have plans for the truck so I’ll post pics about a month from now once I’ve done the work.

For now, picture a carbon metallic gray 2022 FX4 with 5% rear side window tint, 25% back rear tint, and a brow tint below the ANSI line.

I was originally thinking of buying the split Y spoke 21” gloss black Edge wheels, but I’m leaning towards going with the 20” TSW Neptune wheel in black wrapped in 245/45 Michelin pilot sport 4 S.

In the process of ordering the ISC coilover suspension, and also the stainless works 3” down pipe. I’ll likely end up ordering the cat back also but I’ll probably wait a month or so before I do that.

Most would probably prioritize fixing the body damage I have first but I’m comfortable with my priorities 🤓

You came back!!! I’ll eat crow!!

Accidents happen. It’s always unfortunate when it involves someone else’s vehicle and it didn’t happen at your own doing. It’s only money in the end.

Nice username BTW

Definitely NEVER going to not have a license for any period of time for any reason the rest of my life!

Im not the breed of driver who needs any aids, though I DO appreciate the reverse camera.

Out of only two separate track days my best time at Waterford Hills running a 2008 Civic Si coupe (fg2) was 1:23:something

I am glad this all got sorted out in short order, @710!

Yes, sometimes there are quick knee-jerk responses, but I hope that doesn't dissuade you from enjoying and contributing here, there is actually a really great group on MTC!

Have a great day,

Andy
