I know, I know, I know....... I should have got something signed when I ordered my Mav back in July. I was told in my meeting during ordering that
I was locking in price and would avoid the almost guaranteed rise in value as demand goes up. Waited close to 6 months eagerly checking status of my order dang near everyday. Truck get delivered this morning 12-15-21. Dealership calls this morning to tell me there would be a $4,500 dealer mark up. Being that I am already out of that state due to a military PCS I would already have to buy a $500 plane ticket as well as almost 12 hour drive back to my new home I have decided to back out. So now a beautiful Ford Mav sitting in Altus, Oklahoma at a very crappy dealership of Wilmes Ford. At a awesome $4,500 mark up, which they may change to almost $8,000 as they are telling me they gave me a half off discount on the mark up!!!!!!! How kind of them for thinking of me in doing that!!!! Nope go screw yourself Wilmes Ford of Altus, Oklahoma.

Added in the email I received with explanation.

One final note..... As my wife and I found out about our move to a new state I was in full contact with the dealership. Even looked at price of shipping it to my new home and was quoted at $1,800 for the trip from Altus, Oklahoma to Great Falls, MT. I was in constant contact with the dealer. He had every opportunity to be open and honest that there could be a mark up upon arrival. He did not mention this once in our exchanges. He waited till delivery had happened to let me know. That is why I believe this was his plan all along. To have me walk and sell it to the next guy at a profit. At the end of the day I guess as the buyer all I can do is be mad as they sell my custom order to another inidividual.

The craziest part of the dealer mark ups and "market adjustments" is that the vehicles still cost the dealer EXACTLY THE SAME to get from ford as they would have if the car market weren't so weird. It's dealers being greedy and trying to make extra money on BS charges.

Even if you call ford, nothing will happen with the dealer since Ford still needs ways to sell vehicles since they can't do direct to consumer. There are so many laws protecting automakers and dealerships since there is tons of money flowing through that sector all the time. Yes, you can argue that dealer tactics like this give ford a bad reputation, but complaining on a forum doesn't do much.

Leave bad reviews on the dealer site, call out the sales person directly on the google/yelp/facebook review and state only facts. Go to facebook, instagram, twitter, every social platform you can think of and tag the dealer, sales person, ford corporate, etc. Just be a pain in the ass about it. Make sure when people search this dealer's name, they see facts about the manipulative tactics.

I like that he acts like he's doing you a favor by not fucking you out of $8k, but instead just $4500 extra.

If you end up getting the vehicle, give him the shittiest rating you can on his review. He'll get fucked over, but really he's a cog in the machine and his sales manager is the trashbag.

As a retired marketing person, I can offer this advice. Sometimes bad press, or perceived bad press, can get results.
Hypothetically, if someone in uniform (friend of the injured party or local base officer) would stand in front of the dealership with a person holding a large video camera, it would cause quite a stir inside. Followed up with a question to the manager (who would naturally come outside to see what's going on) if they would like to explain their side on camera, MIGHT get them to change their mind. P.S. make sure the camera has a large sticker on the side with the logo of a local station. Just remember NOT to say anything about being associated with the station.

Just for reference - I read an article about that Bronco guy that had this happen and it sounds like Ford themselves state they are limited in what they can do (see below). If they don't step in then you're limited to telling the dealer that these practices can lead to bad PR. You do have to be careful to not cross the line to slander though. If you can't get them to budge you might reach out to someone like Chapman PA who was offering good deals and tell them your story and I'm sure a good dealership will help out a military family. Another 6-8 month wait would suck but sometimes walking about from something like this is the best way to go. Another dealer might even sell you one at MSRP based on this tale for some good PR for their dealership.

Said Deep, Ford's North America product communications director, noted this was accurate and continued to explain that when it comes to dealer tomfoolery, the company's hands are often tied either way. "Ford dealers are independent franchises," Deep explained. "We remind customers that before converting a reservation to an order, they should negotiate the final price they will pay with the dealer they select. If they cannot agree, Ford can help the customer find another dealer they will be happier to work with."

That last part might technically be true, but it's worth noting that Hendra claims the automaker wasn't much help in his situation. "Throughout this whole process Ford was useless," Hendra said. "I called them at least eight times, I asked to speak to anybody higher-up, and all they told me they could do is take the information, then send it off to their 'dealer relationship specialist,' and that if I don't hear back from them in a week, I should go back to the dealership and resolve it myself." So when Ford says that dealers are independent franchises, they mean it. Sometimes there's not much the automaker can do.
just to cover myself. lets say hypothetically I have posted poor reveiws of the deal
Charles what trim/model did you order? At the end of the day if these guys fall through, I still believe you could find the trim/model (maybe not hybrid) from a cancelled custom order with same build somewhere across the country here (in 1-2 weeks) and have it shipped for cheaper than all of this. I'll even help as this is what I did to get my truck faster.
My order was a cactus grey XLT with the off road 4x4, lux package and moonroof any help would be greatly appreciated

There is no reason to mark up an economy vehicle. This is just stupid. Who on this earth would pay even 4K over for a mass produced vehicle with a 4 banger in it. Now, I ordered it because it’s what I can afford, and have been waiting since July to get my ecoboost order scheduled, but I know that it’s a budget vehicle. When you have to add a package to have power drivers seat and call it luxury- hey it’s a budget vehicle. I get paying over sticker for a Ford F-150 raptor. Sure, but not this. I would go on every review site and social media and give bad reviews. I would even threaten to go to the local papers and news. Why not?!?!
Exactly, picked the mav as my first truck because of the affordababilitlty even with the options, now they are marking it up and its approaching the price point for the bigger trucks.

This sucks. Question for the group. I have the agreed upon prince in email from the dealer for my order. Have any of you or know of anyone that the dealer would not honor the email? I don't want to thread jack and want to learn from the OPs experience.

This is total BS! I personally would make every effort to alert everyone that purchased a vehicle at that dealership about his theft. It sucks that your not local and can't put up a big sign in front of Wilmes Superstore. I have a feeling your the first of all there customer that purchased a Maverick they will try and screw over. Hey everyone lets all leave a negative feed back on all social media about this dirtbag dealership and I'm going to personally call Kirk and tell him what a POS he is and I hope everyone who reads this calls him also.

Charles... this is what I did and it is definitely doable. I used www.cars.com and then filtered out results for Ford Maverick (distance, any...)
Filters:
Grey/Green exterior color
XLT trim
Moonroof

Then I sort by new on the cars.com page at the top right of the search results... as of now I see ~30 vehicles fitting this build... then I go into each one and start looking up windowsticker/dealer and reaching out. Doing this, you could find one potentially TODAY.

Here is one I found minus luxury package, but has everything else you listed.....

This is just one example, but if you want to find one and not wait, this is the way to do it.

On behalf of the honest dealers, I apologize that you are having this issue. Part of the process for submitting a new retail order is that the dealership is required by Ford to provide a signed Buyers Order, which should have the sale amount on it, and a copy of the buyers drivers license. The dealership should honor the Buyers Order which hopefully you completed and signed. Also the dealer can state that they are receiving emails from locator services all he wants. However, one thing they are not telling you is that if they sell their unit through a locator service they will not receive credit for a sale because THEY are not selling it to an end user. This affects their allocation for future orders. I would suggest that you obtain a copy, if you don't already have one, of the original Buyers Order which was submitted to Ford. At least then you have some signed paperwork to back you. If they still will not honor the Buyers Order I would contact Ford and press them on this issue. Hope this helps.

I just talked to a local dealer who has a First Edition coming in. They told me they paid the ordering customer $2000 to give it up, and now they have it listed for $10k over sticker

This remedy is certainly well-intentioned and potentially very good advice, but the fact remains that the OP should not have to resort to this to get the Maverick he wants. (If that's even possible.)

Wilmes Ford (Not-so) Superstore needs to honor the original agreement.
