The last year the Tacoma had a V6, no turbo, was 2023. The 2023 Tacoma has between 15 and 20 computers (ECMS) on a local network to control different functions. The 2020 V6 Tacoma has 1 to 5 computers (ECMS). Low mileage used Tacoma's are pricey because it's a proven, reliable, solid, truck. I understand your frustration. I won't live long enough to see an automaker sell a vehicle saying "increased reliability and lower maintenance costs using minimal computers/ECMS." Trailer light module? Recall? What a joke.

Not the real issue here at all, they are charging just fine. 12v Battery drain is caused by a combination of things and has nothing to do with MPG chasing. It comes down to a lack of testing, poor software programming, sloppy manufacturing, and lazy engineering. The real cause? Greed, the need for corporations to needlessly increase profits ever quarter, causing them the chase cost cutting at every opportunity possible. Evidence? Look at the number of recalls (across all brands) now compared to 20 years ago and do the math.

If I ran my business they way big corporations do, I’d be on the street in a few months.
yep - it's sort of ridiculous - they should be able to simulate all of this in the lab with any decent software and testing diagnostics yet it seems like it's more difficult to figure out than launching moon rockets - i don't get it. Only thing is that maybe the thresholds for charging are in place because exceeding them causes some other related problems that are more troublesome and they can't get around it so they keep it as it is.

Never underestimate the effect of the legal and accounting departments overriding the judgement of the engineering team...

Taking my 2023 Lariat hybrid to the dealer I bought it from today. Selling it back to them.
Monday, it went BAT SHIT CRAZY. It would not start and had 6 error codes rolling across the screen. I used a jump box to get it started and drove 40 miles with only partial brakes available, and rolling codes on the dash. NOT FUN. The third time I have had to use a jump box to start it. Always on Batterty Tender Jr when not being driven. They replaced the 12v battery and flashed 5 modules.
Enough for me! I offered to sell it to them, they offered me $26000. In 4 hours I will get a check, they will get the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned in 66 years of driving. Good luck to the next sucker. I'm getting a Toyota. I have owned three Toyota vehicles over the past 16 years, and I will own nothing but after today.
The MTC has been a great resource, the Maverick was fun while it lasted, but I am done. Fartley can continue to build record breaking recall vehicle. I won't own one.
So sorry to hear this. My Maverick is great and I recommend to many to get one and enjoy life. If I was in your shoes I would have just traded it in on a new one and left the "lemon" on their lot. All manufacturers have a lemon model from time to time and within a great model lineup there is the occasional lemon individual vehicle. It is in no way a reflection of every one of the model. All the best to you sir.

I believe the saying is "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." I said about 4 pages back you should get rid of it. Life is too short to be unhappy. I hope your next vehicle is better than the Maverick was. Seems you got a lemon wrapped in a turd.

I have driven a wide range of vehicles from all sorts of brands and the only one that was any sort of problem was a Ford Transit Connect but I wouldnt avoid an entire brand because of one bad vehicle, sometimes you just get unlucky.

The thing was awful to drive anyway, more so than the usual work van. My Maverick as well as the dealer I bought it from has been great so far.

Lots of talk on MTC about the Toyota Rav based pickup coming out. Since you’ve had good luck with Toyota and the Rav has been a big seller, that would appear to be a logical choice for you. You could also look at an importer bringing in a Hilux Scout (the UK version would be the best USA match).

So odd how these things go.
My 23 hybrid has been great. No issues except for the stupid computer programming recalls and the CV axles. All of which Ford fixed quickly on their dime. At ~ 46K miles I am still thrilled to have the Mav. Even more now with gas prices.
Having said that, the worst car I ever owned was a Ford I bought off the showroom floor. After about 2 years I parked it on the street, walked away and called Ford and told them they could pick it up, leave it, I didn't care.
This really sounds like a good opportunity for one of those data nerds to research which work shift the problem free mavericks were built and during which shift the problem ones got put together. My guess is there might be some interesting employee data there.

I have a 2023, since new, 44k miles on it and i have had zero issues, still have the original battery and tires. I bought and carry a portable battery jumper but I have only used it on my Wife's avalon.

I lived near some Oldsmobile line workers a while back. They all said never buy a car built on a Monday.
