As the title states, I’ve been on the fence about adding fx4 package to my build. Currently have the 4k tow package on my xlt with only 2 other minor options, but the more I see videos of the fx4 package the more it makes me think I might regret not getting the fx4 package, namely because of the more off road focused traction programs integrated into the AWD system which seem to be better (at least on the surface) than what is included with just the regular trims. I know it’s not going to make a huge difference, but I noticed in one of the YouTube reviews I’ve seen recently that the programming on the fx4 seemed to be able to better deal with some types of surfaces than the regular modes can. To get more to the point, is there any major reasons to go with the fx4 package that can’t just be added on to a 4k package AWD later on aside from the fancy 6.5 inch instrument cluster display?

The only downside is losing the Sport and Eco modes.

For $800 it seemed like a great deal for me.

FX4 wheels alone make the $800 worth it.
I’ma little more partial to the regular xlt wheels, but don’t disagree they are good looking wheels

yeah they’re a good deal compared to aftermarket wheels. Mono tube shocks and skid plates along with the screen and modes was just gravy for me.

Went ahead and made the decision to just do it, figured what the heck, not much more money for what all is included in the package and could use the extra off road modes as I’m gonna be doing some light off-roading on the more maintained forest roads here around New Mexico

IIRC ford said if you don't have fx4 going off road invalidates the warranty. IMO it's worth it for the rims and display. You can't mount tow hooks on non fx4 builds as the frame elements don't exist so there's that, too. Supposedly the rear shocks are better but it doesn't say that on the website.

Yeah, it’s kinda buried in the specs on ford’s website, but it does say the fx4 package comes with mono tube rear suspension with anti rebound control i believe, was also noticing that in the fx4 specs on the pop up that you get when you click for details on it that it states the fx4 gets A/T tires, but then you get to the wheels section of the option list and even after selecting the fx4 package it leaves it at A/S tires

Good move, I'm sure once you get your vehicle you will not regret the decision.

My truck came with pirelli scorpion ATR tires on 17 inch rims.
I got both fx4 and 4k packages.

same here. The black FX4 wheel was the best option in my opinion and that was why I added Toyos after the fact. Ford is dumb for making you ditch the black wheels to get the Falken 235s from them.

I did the same with the packages but opted for the Falken Wildpeaks and Alloy wheels. Snow up here in PA is a beast some winters. Needed beefier tires.
I did the same
Got the Wildpeak trails and so far I am very pleased
