EDIT / UPDATE

Thanks Mav. fam for the input and advice. Well, I went an entirely different route after thinking I’d get a little trailer.

Our Lowe’s here in Colorado applies our state’s clean-energy lawn tool rebate, which I completely forgot about, right off the top now. Making this new 30” self-propelled EGO mower $1259, from its orig. $1799 price. Comes with 2 56V 6Ah batteries, dual-charger, catch bag). I’m not sponsored by EGO or Lowe’s lol but it’s pretty cool I must say. Best yet, I can easily put it in the Maverick. No ramps, trailers, and hopefully bad back.

Anyone try hauling a riding lawn mower? Does it fit in bed of Maverick?

was thinking about transporting a smaller riding mower to help out my in-laws but not leave there so I can use it too. Preferably not needing a trailer.

Talking about the smaller 30” ones - Craftsman, Cub Cadet, maybe a Ryobi 80V

I hauled a Snapper SR825 in the bed if my Maverick. I did have to put the gate down though.

As others have already mentioned, a 30" mower won't be an issue at all. I've hauled bigger mowers in the bed of a Maverick with no issues. I believe the larges so far was a 23hp, 48" Deck Husqvarna with the mower deck removed.

I'd be lost without my little 5'x8' trailer with a fold down rear ramp....It has paid for itself several dozen times....so much less aggravation and lifting ....If you have a place to store a trailer.

Can you lift these or need a ramp?

lift a ~600lb tractor?

Loading even a small riding mower / tractor into and out of a truck bed 4 times ~every week to mow 2 lawns would get very old very fast.

Invest in a small, quality trailer and have a lifetime tool to use for this or other projects..

I just rent a trailer from U-Haul when I need to haul something I don't want to lift into the back. But that works for me since it's such an infrequent need that the added overhead (time spent going to pick up, use, then drop off) isn't a big deal.

A friend of mine bought a cheap 5x8 trailer with the expanded metal flooring after he tried to load his side-by-side into the bed of his pickup. Gassed it over the wheel arches and...smashed the rear window.

Probably not solo, but two reasonably able-bodied people should be able to lift a lighter 30" no problem. Done it before with ATVs. Pick up front axle, drop on tailgate, lift rear axle, push forward.

I’ve hauled a bunch of fire wood clearly towering over the cab and had no issues. Just set it on haul/tow and was done.

Even that tiny Snapper (28”?) pictured above weighs ~350 lbs. I would not want to be one of the 2 guys picking it up and into the truck bed at the OPs house, driving to the in-laws, unloading it there, re-loading it at the in-laws, then unloading it back at the OP home every week…

Can you? Sure!

Is it a wise idea? Not if you value the health of your back. With that much weight one screwup is all you need to have permanent issues. Ask me how I know......

If you're going to be doing this weekly, at minimum you are going to need ramps. And make sure the engine is towards the cab so you dont overload the tailgate.

A trailer would be a lot easier though, both to load and unload. One of the cheap Harbor Freight trailers with a marine wood floor would handle it fine, and the trailer can fold flat against the wall.

I built and used a 4x8 harbor freight trailer. Unless you know the tricks they aren't easy to fold up onto the casters. In my garage I could not leave the tongue extended for leverage.
There are tricks to it but they not exactly safe.
