John Deere Lawn Mower with 48 inch deck -- will it fit in bed ?

I have seen a couple posts confirming (with pics) that a lawn mower with a 42 in. deck and a 46 in. deck will fit but has anyone attempted a 48 in. deck yet?

Since 4x8 sheets of drywall need to sit on top of the wheel wells to fit, I would say no.

You need to lay down a sub-floor so the unit can be flush with the wheel well just like plywood.

Just measured my 50" deck is exactly 52" overall width (50" is the blade cutting width). The truck bed at the tailgate inside to inside is 48 3/4" so NO AS I EXPECT THE 48" TO MEASURE 50".

John deere decks typically are very easy to remove so you could remove it and load the deck in a vertical postion.

The sub floor would have to be the height of side rails of bed

The tractor deck would not be resting between the wheel wells. The front of the tractor, on most JD Riding mowers, are consistently the same and have been verified to go fine in between the wheel wells. The deck would be at the wider area of the bed to the rear of the wheel wells and then the back wheels would rest on the tailgate. I know it is close since a 46 inch deck worked (see link above)

The overall width of a 48" cutting width deck will be about 1.25" wider than the rear opening of truck at the tail gate so you would need a bed cover that could support the mower.

Bed opening is 48 3/4". The 48" mower deck is 48" blade tip to blade tip and the deck housing is wider than 48 3/4". A 49" wide sheet of particle board will not lay flat like a 48" wide plywood or sheetrock.

Measure of tailgate opening notice that I have bed liner and opening is 48 3/4" less the thickness of 2 layers of the ed liner!
