If anyone wanted to see this and compare. The first 5k miles were OEM oil and Filter. The 10k mile readings were with 0w20 Amsoil and Amsoil Filter.
I’m sending in my first sample today. I expect to see high levels of wear metals as my EB is still going through break in. What I’m most concerned about is oil dilution - with a TSB for my VIN for that issue.

I really like how Blackstone formats their analysis….thanks for posting!

Another report that shows changing oil too early.

Hybrids really can go 10,000+ miles between changes.

It's not a stretch. It is not a risk.
10,000 miles is way conservative in a hybrid.
And you're the say all be all on oil changes, or what? I changed at 5k to make sure to get the oil out during the motor break in period. I then changed at 10k to see the difference in OEM vs amsoil. You do see they recommended 7k oil changes, or did you skip that part? However, I'm at 15k and will do my next oil change and analysis at 20k. I've done 10k oil changes on all my Toyotas and no issues. My wife's Toyota at 150k oil analysis is great. My Camry at 170k was too.

As far as changing the first oil change before 10k is actually a good idea to get all the metal from machining out as early as possible. Several people do it at 1k. But if someone doesn't buy into 10k oil changes who are you to tell them what to spend their money on? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Remember to take the sample from midstream. 🫣 #4

Blackstone Laboratories oil collection involves collecting ~3 oz of engine oil in a clean bottle during an oil change or via a dipstick pump, filling out the provided info slip, and mailing it using the prepaid container. The key is to take the sample from the middle of the drain, not the beginning or end.

Only way this would speak to me is to do another truck with
OEM oil and filter on the second service also,
Without Amsoil,

Um your filter gets the metal out as soon as it’s loose. Right ?

@OP, I don't see a serious conflict here. I agree that the hybrid can go 10K miles per oil change under normal driving conditions.
I also believe in doing the first oil change early as prescribed by "The Oil Geek".
I did my first (hybrid) oil change at 2,000 miles and I will do my second oil change after that 7K. After that I will go up to 10K, if I put that many miles on at the warranty's prescribed one-year mark.
Essentially, I think you are both right! I appreciate you sharing you oil test results.

Um your filter gets the metal out as soon as it’s loose. Right ?
That is why most (all?) of us change our filters when we change our oil.

Also, there are wear metals & assembly sealants etc that are too small to be filtered - too small to hurt the engine but more of indication that the engine is still breaking in…

And of course, the filter won’t filter out any oil dilution issues.

But you’re right - any nasty “chunks” of metal end up in the filter.

Except for about 10 seconds of oil that has been through the engine but not the filter when you loosen the drain plug:)

wouldn't that be "oil dilution" I guess you really don't know what to expect? you'll see no excess metals.

I meant oil dilution of course. The TSB is for fuel in the oil.

BTW, I received results from same oil change but from SPEEDiagnostix that said the dilution was in the ok range - but the “wear metals” in my oil were a “yellow alert” level. Not a “red alert” and normal for an engine with less than 2000 miles.

They recommended next change in 3000 miles. I’ll actually do it sooner since I only drive about 2000/yr. My OLM was down to 46% after only 900 miles of driving.

I’m looking forward to what Blackstone finds…

BTW, the oil collection instructions are nearly identical to how you should collect a clean catch urine sample. Remember it the next time you're in your doctor's office for a physical.

I’m not a total moron but can someone translate for me? I have a hybrid. I get that an oil change every 10,000 is adequate. I use synthetic oil. I also monitor the “oil life” stat on Ford Pass which right now says 40% and I’m taking it in Friday at 15,000 for state inspection and changing to summer tires. Any other basic advice from this post?
