Changed my Cab filter (1st time, June 2024.)
After 18 months of ownership, (I forgot to check) I never had to deal with one before.

Ford Maverick Cabin air filter replacement, paper found on top of filter. First Cabin Filter Change (1)

Looks like yours with the lower number of pleats..
Replaced it with Same, Motorcraft as yours. (Motorcraft was cheaper than any of the aftermarket ones..)
I plan on checking what condition that one is in. This weekend..

$40 total charge to install an $18 filter represents a thief?

It appears he was charged for ~10 minutes of labor...

.
Feel free to pay inflated prices for parts and service at the dealer (stealer) if you choose so. I paid $8.99 for a cabin air filter on Amazon. It took me longer to put on my jacket and walk outside than it did to install it. I believe you are the first person I have ever heard defend dealership charges.

I'm sure you'll be fine with your Amazon filter.

For those who prefer the OEM Motorcraft cabin air filter, and for those who would prefer to not install themselves, and assuming the retail filter price is actually $18, do you feel that the $40 total charge for ~10 minutes of labor and the product is unreasonable?

Because you have to pay for someone to put it in. It literally takes a minute to install. Don't pay these thieves to do it.
I agree we should pay NO ONE for their labor.

Well, except someone who starts work at McDonalds, they should be entitled to $25 an hour...

;)

For someone who doesn’t know how to replace their own
I think it's tissue paper from packaging. Maybe not from the filter but fell inside the ducts during install.
I think that’s a what it is as well.
It came from the factory like this.
Just good thing that when I pulled out the cabin air filter that the paper came out with the filter and didn’t fall down into the blower motor, and I didn’t notice and turn it on. Lol
It would have probably shred it to pieces and gotten all up in the blower motor.
I’m sure that would have made an interesting noise! Lol
You would be thinking after installing the new filter: WHAT is that noise?!? lol

Tissue paper and blower motors sounds interesting. lol

My previous small truck was a spartan Nissan Frontier . At some point after the 3/36 warranty the blender door in the AC/heater would make a constant clicking sound on certain settings , the blender door motor would stay on .
I researched , there were 2 fixes .
One was to replace the blender door motor assembly , expensive , not easy , and would probably fail again .
The second choice was a precisely placed clothespin ( yes , a clothespin ) in the heater box , limiting the motion of the door .
I sold the Nissan to CarMax ( for $1600 more than I paid new ) when I ordered my Maverick .
I imagine someone in the future would have found the clothespin while changing the cabin air filter and removed it .....wondering why it was clipped there .....surprise !
Click , click, click , click.......

I absolutely do think it is too much. To me, it is the equivalent of getting charged $22 for labor for someone to pump your gas. It is literally opening the glovebox, then opening a little "door" and changing the filter. And as far as OEM filters (which is the only thing I use for oil filters) they are about half the price on Rock Auto. So unless it is part I can only get at a dealer or it's warranty work, I refuse to pay the inflated prices a dealer charges. There is nothing wrong with doing so if that is what you are comfortable with.

$22 labor is too much? LOLLLLLLL

That equates to ~10 minutes of billed time.. You clearly don't understand how any service industry works..

The tech walks outside in the lot, finds your car where ever it's parked, opens your door, puts a paper mat down and drives it into his bay. He scans your VIN to log the vehicle. He walks to the parts counter and picks up the filter, goes back to his bay. Opens the passenger door, takes a couple minutes to install the filter. Goes over to driver's side, gets in, tests the HVAC for no noises or issues, drives it outside and parks it, then walks back in to submit his ticket and time.. He's probably got ~15-20 total minutes of his time invested, the time that he makes money to feed his family.

if there's an issue caused by his service he and the shop are on the hook.

Who pays for that $10M service shop?
Who pays the $10,000+ a month electric bill so he can light the shop, have power, air, heat, AC, etc.?
Who pays for the $16k/each for the lifts?
Who pays for his $10,000+ in tools?
The old filter that gets tossed in the trash along with the packaging, etc., who pays to have that trash collected and disposed of weekly?

Is all that infrastructure supposed to be free to you?

For those who do their own service, that's great, more people should learn how to do it..

Is there abuse within the industry? Absolutely.. There's abuse within virtually all industry.

Whining about a $22 charge for someone to provide any service on your vehicle when it's done properly and the vehicle is returned clean and undamaged is myopic.

I put the Hepa cabin filter in my 2025 Maverick. Here in Eastern North Carolina, we have tons of pollen in the air. My allergies kick in real good if I don’t use a good filter.
$18 at O’Reilly’s. By the way, O’Reilly carries the Motorcraft brand filters too.

MicroGard HEPA Cabin Air Filter - 4018HP
How's the airflow? Many times they restrict flow significantly.

good luck....

My dealership charged me 40 bucks!
Was that $40 for the filter part or $40 for the filter and "labor" ?
Normally parts and labor are on separate line items.

Please continue to go to the dealer to get your cabin air filter replaced. Please continue to pay for their extraordinary service. Nobody was whining. If you are driving a Ford Maverick, I will assume you aren't rich and wouldn't mind saving $25 dollars doing something that is so easy my cat could probably do it.

No where did I say I have any of my dealers perform any of my vehicle's or equipment's routine service.

Good luck
