You got a banger deal if you paid less than 22k for a 2022 xl as nearly nobody else paid that price for one!!
yeah I lucked out - for some unknown reason there was a local $500 off rebate that I had no idea of - with that I wandered out of there for under 22 including taxes.

Good video.
Well done video.

I noticed no one in the video was over age ~35. I wonder if they were all actors.

I have been saying basically forever we can all have a 500 mile range EV for under 20 grand if we dial down the horsepower.

I also have been saying for years the solution is not bigger batteries. The solution is smaller lighter more efficient vehicles. Because it is.

Dial down the 0 to 60 times.
Keep it on the racetrack. It's pointless for daily work, school, commute, life.

I can drive to work at 70 mph, comfortably with ten horsepower.
You can too.

Zero to sixty in 50 seconds vs. 5 seconds. The vehicle will be under $20k and cost to recharge will be $3 a day or free with solar. You'll get to work 45 seconds later than a Maverick.

Downsize it is the key.
Not slow. 70 or 80 mph is easy.
Not low range. 500 miles is easy
50 seconds zero to 60 saves the planet.
All you need is a paradigm shift.
Thank God you are not the Emperor of the Universe....

Sorry to see this devolve into an EV vs EV bad thing. Doesn't seem like a pitch on either side is going to change anyone's religion.

Re the subject of the original post: I'm impressed by what Ford has presented. And it isn't about a distant future hope: 2028 isn't that far off.

Love the concept, the small efficiency victories presented. They add up. Fascinated to see what the new small truck will look like. Something different to pull off that air efficiency, but hopefully not absurd looking (ie cybertruck~ish).

Creative EV's and hybrids are on the horizon... it's great seeing a "legacy" automaker like Ford step up their game and be key part of that future.

Meanwhile, I continue to be impressed with the hybrid system on my Maverick.

If the cost to recharge is $3 per day.....I don't spend $21 in gas each week so I wouldn't like that.

I will say that blue sketch isn't the final truck, and is too radical, but looking at other sketches, there's one I think looks sport, but pretty good. It's gonna required me to present multiple angles and pics, so just bear with me.

Ok, they did a lot of engineering but taking away truck attributes is a non-starter. I look forward to the day where aerodynamics is not a major factor in a design, meaning we have enough power available that this is a non-issue.

A truck should have ground clearance and articulation for off-road activities. Designing a mousetrap that cannot be modified without hurting required efficiencies is something I will not buy for use as a truck.

This involves a lot of stitching images together so just bear will me, but I think I have an idea as to what the truck will look like. This gray sketch is probably the final theme because it's sporty, but not radical like the blue one. Notice things like the flared fenders, slightly angled bed cab, and squared off wheel arches.

You appear to see part of the same design theme with this yellow sketch, the same design elements. You can't see the entire design here, but can see the rear, it looks good in a sporty ute sort of way.

As for the front, we know the hood is flat near the windshield, but angles down near the leading edge for areo. This black front end shows the only confirmed photo we have of the trucks design. I believe this tarp image shows the front fender from another angle. Notice how it has the same angled down front end as the black image, and the same squared off wheel arches that the gray and yellow sketches had?

I don't believe the blue sketch is the final design, but I could see them using elements like these lights and maybe a few lines from the front bumper that convey that bold, futuristic look.

Put it all together and you have a pretty compelling looking ute imo.

I was all in on a Lightning until I realized how heavy, expensive, and inefficient it was. Winter mile per charge was awful.

I’ll be all in on this new platform if it solves the above problems.
I’ll trade my 25 Mav in for the new EV. y payments It’s what I wanted all along.
Bob
may have to stretch my payments and swap when this comes out!

I kind of trust Ford to know their customers. I think the only truck design misstep I can remember them making was the soft and feminine version of the F150 a while back. And boy were they quick to fix that. It's not like Ford is abandoning more styling-conservative truck buyers. The manly-man F150 ain't going nowhere. Nor is the Ranger. Nor the Maverick.

If I am worred about anything, it would be the software team delivering on time. Legacy OEMs have a history of stumbling when it comes to software. It is a big lift to do a whole vehicle software stack on a new zonal architecture. Rivian and Tesla spent billions achieving that. It is so hard that VW just threw up their hands and threw away billions before licensing from Rivian (which was more billions).

Oh, I do have a second concern. I could see this truck being a hit like the Maverick, with year plus waits. That's a real concern. So I'm personally and selfishly hoping it's not a runaway hit. So I can buy one.

I hope they dont go with the Chevy SRS type aerodynamics. That thing was not a truck, even if it had a bed. Sorta like the now defunct Santa Cruz.

That’s kinda how I see the Maverick.
As far as I can tell if it’s raised more than an inch you get accelerated shaft wear.

These would have helped :
