Ok, went to the grocery store today, 4km trip each way, it's -13c and snowing. Easy drive, no issues.

Finish shopping, get into the mav and start it, it gives me every warning it could, everything was locked out and wouldn't start. Turned off, waited, tried again, repeat 3 more times. It wants to be dead.

Pulled out my lithium jumper pack, battery is always low on my truck because I don't drive it that much... .so maybe. Nope, didn't work.

Thankfully there is a dollar store in the plaza, bought some pliers, took off the negative, waited 10 minutes, put it back on. It starts hapy as can be.

Lessons

1) Computers suck (I work in tech btw)
2) Have a toolkit that actually fits things in your vehicle (I had one but the hex drivers did not match the battery nut size)
3) Who would have thought, but thank some diety for the dollar stores.

It's 6 months old, I don't want to take it to the dealership, but looks like I"m going to have to.

I still love it, but my Honda's never did this sh!t to me.

It happens.

You did what I would have done.

Your "Hondas" probably didn't have 2025 technology in them. Were they hybrids?

You're right, the Mav is my newest vehicle. My next which I still have is my Accord which is a Hybrid, a 2017 and it's been incredibly reliable over the 8 years I've owned it. The entertainment system has some stupid bugs, but the rest of the car is solid.

I would expect software to be better in 2025 than 2017, especially the base that runs the vehicle. But again, I work in tech... and what should be really isn't.

Every Maverick should come with a 10mm box/open wrench in the glovebox - to be used whenever "stupid" mode occurs. That way one can quickly disconnect the negative battery cable (kinda of a slap to back of its head) and continue on.
BTW, no need to wait, just loosen it, pull it off, put it back on, tighten and go.

Well, surprise but no surprise, the 12v battery failed all their tests. They replaced it and aggreated all the issues as that is the problem. They probably are not wrong.

But eating a 12v AGM battery every 6 months doesn't sound like fun. It' a '25 so it came with an AGM battery already.

Time to go put my meter on and it watch it over time.

Do you commonly turn truck off with HVAC on and whatever setting it was at?
Even when cold - AC may be used for defrost moisture removal.

Did they do the SSM for the AC module software update?
Work order should say.

Yours sounds like the intermittent battery drain (though you could have the undercharged many of us have too).
Took a day or two - but boom - dead.

So, even with the battery replaced. Yesterday, it happened again, slightly different start, after a short drive (3km) went into the store for 10 minutes, came out started the truck, started driving and got the alert stop as soon as possible. I noticed that the gas engine wasn't running and it was on electric. Stopped, parked, turned off, turned on, was fine.

Got home (3km) was in the house for 20 minutes, went out to leave, start the truck, Christmas tree time, all alerts it could give it did. Tried a second time, same thing.

Disconnected the negative terminal, 10 seconds reconnected, started, all fine.

I'm still seeing the new battery at low voltages. The day before I was out for a 45 minute drive, it should have been fully charged but it wasn't, voltage yesterday was down to 11.5 when it was failing.

(more of a rant than a please help me fix my truck, i'm going to call the dealer).

No I actually don't use the HVAC in the winter for the most part, I'm also the weirdo driving around with the temperature at Lo, and fan on the defrost section only at low... when it's -10c and lower out. I do love the heated seats and steering wheel.

This HVAC system does as vast majority have done for decades.
Defrost has the AC on.

So you do have AC on.
So my followup questions/comments apply.

Ok, so as you mentioned back to your questions.

So as per my last response, I don't see the light on the AC being on, but is it still on if I have it pointing only to the windows (defrost?) I have not turned on max defrost or anything like that.

No they did not do any software upates, I'll bring this up with them.

I definitely have undercharging. The battery drops hard when I go to the car open the doors, do something close the doors. No starting. It takes a while to rise back up to near the level it was before I opened the door. About 1/2 hour.

Because of this problem I've built a battery monitoring system that integrates into some home IT stuff, it only logs when it's in my driveway, but here is yesterday, after I got home from my last trip. Those dips are the truck doing whatever it does, I didn't go near it when they happened.
