What kind of luck have you folks had with the fx4 package on 2 tracks and rutted roads, I on occasion go fishing and hunting off of 2 tracks in the woods. Currently have a ranger and am looking at an xlt ecoboost fx4. How about any issues with ground clearence?

Depends on how rutted the road is. Ground clearance would be your biggest potential issue.

Unlike your Ranger, all the wiring and fuel line is not tucked up in the frame. They're only "protected" by felt.

Have they improved the frontal approach angle on the 25s front bumper valance ? The 22-24 version was hung so low I had to get lift springs for driving in Utah-

I've had good experience overall with it off road. As mentioned, the ground clearance can be an issue if ruts are really deep, but 95% of the time I've had no issues. It's actually pretty fun to hoon around in Sand Mode on the USFS trails in Northern Michigan.

The fx4 has a sturdy metal skid, not felt. The pirelli scorpions are pretty average tires, not doing anything really well. Definitely recommend a better tire for anything more than a little mud or snow.

Commenting again to add a +1 here too on getting better tires. I also did a 1" level on my truck, helps with that front clearance a little.

I've heard the Falken WildPeak AT and Cooper Discoverer AT are good for the offroad/mud stuff.

The Mav std AWD system is pretty good, considering it's architecture is geared to on-road performance. Limitations for the Mav going off-road are usually governed mostly by ground clearance, tires, and lack of any diff locking ability. If your track doesn't push any of these deficiencies, you will probably be ok. But there is a reason I also have a Bronco... 🤠

What's beyond the engine skid plate? Yes, there's a plate on the evap canister, but that's it. Everything past that is felt.

You obviously don't know, and that's fine, but it's a removable metal skid plate that cavers the entire engine(not just an evap canister?), not the felt, and then in the back along the driver and passenger sides there are felt catch pans\blockers, they only work for aerodynamics, they aren't for protecting anything.

I guess doing oil changes, transmission fluid changes, PTU fluid changes, RDU fluid changes, AND changing one of those felt panels (that I ripped off road) makes me not know anything about what's on the underside. 😉

Not trying to get involved here, but there may be some misunderstanding. That was what BGN was trying to say in the first place: metal skid plate in front, but all brake lines, fuel lines, etc, running from the back of the truck are only covered by that felt panel.
