108-110 . Fast enough for me at my current age. If I had it in my 20s-30s I would probably be stupid enough to go faster. But at age 61 I doubt if I’ll get even 100 mph…
Might be able to get up to 95mph legally on a quarter mile drag strip? Might even have a “Senior Citizen Night” - but at only 61 you would probably not qualify…

South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) has dedicated half-mile drag strip with ample shutdown area for safety. Should be able to reach the Maverick’s top speed there legally;)

The Maverick is one of those vehicles that will allow 90mph to creep up on you without breaking a sweat. Even the Hybrid will end up at 90 if the driver isn't paying attention. Im sure the EcoBoost could do it even moreso. I'd be interested to see what the natural top speed would be if the Maverick wasn't limited by the PCM, I'm sure it would be well beyond it's handling limits. I remember driving a 6.7 diesel equipped f250 . I had done a repair involving acceleration. So I was on a final test drive. I had it to the floor and was looking straight ahead at the road. The truck started to feel a bit squirrelly as if the front wheels weren't firmly planted on the road. I backed off the accelerator and glanced down at the speedometer. I think it was in excess of 110. The f250 is supposed to be limited to 103. The customer had a programmed it and eliminated the speed limiter. !
Yes, If I'm not watching speed on an interstate near me I find I'm suddenly over 80 in a 70 mph zone. You just don't feel (or hear) it in a hybrid w/CVT like you do in an ICE w/shifting gears. My Corolla Cross hybrid is the same, so although I mostly prefer driving without CC I'm having to use it on highways now just to lower the risk of speeding tickets.

And once a vehicle reaches cruising speed, you barely hear anything engine related. So speed creep is real. I use my cruise on a 5 mile stretch of 2 Lane highway on my way to work because it's straight with relatively low traffic flow. The limit is 45. You'd really be comfortable driving 70. But you'd assume the limit was at least 55 based on similar roads. I lock my cruise on 54 or 55. Otherwise, my natural speed would be 65. I got a ticket doing 72 one morning when running late. They generally don't bother folk going 10 or less over in similar conditions

I sent you a PM about your Corolla, thanks.

But mostly because they can now arrest for going over 30 over the limit on over 100 mph regardless. In the past it was a civil infraction unless in a school zone
85-90 now and then out in the open and my one time excursion just past 100 is plenty for this 67 year old teenager.

The only reason I took it just past 100 is because that turbo showed no sign of weakness. I had to know.

Back in the day, sports cars all had stick shift.
They still do!

It's just that these days, a bunch of quiche-eating Nancies will drop cash for something g that might have been a sports car if not for the sissymatic transmission.

bah.

and don't give me that F1 crap, or other excuses like "oh, paddles": if you're not physically moving the gears, it ain't a sports car!

now get off my lawn!

F1 banned the use of CVTs in 1994 because:
1) Too fast. The CVT would keep the car in optimum rpm by taking the human element of physically shifting gears out of equation.
2) Too boring. Spectators want to hear gear changes - not a continuous whine.
3) Part of a crackdown on electronic "driver aids".

The solution was to use semi-automatic (no clutch pedal) sequential 8speed gearboxes with fixed ratios. Drivers chose when to shift the actual gears using the paddles on the steering wheel due to space limitations. Spectators hear the shifts & mis-shifts 😃

NASCAR also use the semi-automatic (no clutch pedal) sequential gearboxes - but put the shift “stick” on the floor as nature intended. Same mechanism as the F1 paddles though.

I expect NASCAR will move their shifters to the steering wheel eventually for the safety benefits?

As I said, sissymatic!

😜

Such semiautomatic's are still computer controlled machine shifting.

Real clutch, and throw the gear yourself--or go home!

The only semiautomatic I can think of after the 1930s in which you actually thrown the gear is volkswagon's "automatic stickshhift", which was actually an automatic clutch triggered by moving the shifter, and a torque converter replacing first gear.

I won’t argue if F1 drivers are sissies or not. But the hybrid motors in all F1 cars are limited to only 160hp. A tad wimpy?

Edit - clutch pedals are for old fogies who have not mastered modern game controllers. Couldn’t parry if their fake life depended on it;)

Apparently new sports cars do not have manual's.
I have 3 friends, one has a Ferrari, no stick available, another a Vette, no stick available. The third guy had to order his Porshe Boxter from Germany in order to get a stick shift!!!
PS I love a stick and the only reason I would not get a Ecoboost Mav is because , you guessed it, no 5 speed!

If anything the Mav would sport a 6spd manual as that’s pretty much industry standard for what’s left of manuals.

Believe it or not. Ford offered a semi automatic in the original Maverick for one year when it first came out in 1970 . It was basically a C4 transmission that did not have the automatic shift capabilities. I saw an old owner's manual years ago. It said you can start off in first or second. But advised not to start off in 3rd because it could cause the transmission to overheat. In truth, the little 170 cubic inch engine probably would have had a hard time moving in anyway from a dead stop. I'm not sure, but I think GM offered a 2 speed version based on their power glide transmission from 1968-1970 I believe,

What’s a game controller? Is my Mav supposed to have one? 😉

Would you really buy an EB if it had a stick? I’m guessing “no”. The “sensible” part of your brain would overrule the “fun” part:)

The 25 Toyota Tacoma is the only midsize with the traditional manual option. About 1% of Tacoma buyers chose that option this year. Although 110% will complain when Toyota finally eliminates it!

Would I buy a manual EB? Honestly no, but paddle shifting was a must have for purchase. I actually prefer paddles over the stick & clutch gasp 😮
