As others have said - don't worry about your GPF Mav, not the end of the world, yes I'm sure there'll be times regen cycles will be irksome but it is what it is, GPF's in Europe for many years, a small percentage with onboard diagnostics (OBD) related issues.

If you live in a CARB state (California + other Section 177 States that have adopted California emission standards), the easiest way to know if that 2026MY (or 2025MY) Ford you’re eyeballing has a GPF unfortunately is - go to the dealer, pop the hood, check the VECI sticker, see if it has the magic term “GPF” anywhere. If you see that - you've got a GPF on your 2.0L EB Mav. For 2026MY, here's the CARB exec. order (approval) for a MAV with GPF: Executive Order: A-010-2615-1

For 2025MY Mav with GPF, here's the VECI (same engine Test Group number as the 2026):

The '26 Order Guide 'sort of' addresses this:
Ford Maverick 2025 Ecoboost with a GPF mav26order

Just for grins - a quick-and-dirty method I used for finding CARB-certified vehicles that have GPF’s – went to the CARB website New Vehicle and Engine Certification: Executive Orders for Light-Duty Vehicles | California Air Resources Board , clicked on EO Summary for PC/LDT/MDV LDV_EO_Summary.xlsx , downloaded the file, search for the term GPF. You’ll get around 89 “models” (from 2020MY to 2026MY) - mainly BMW’s, Porsche, Ferrari, Jag Land Rover, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes, and VW. And 1 x 2026 Hyundai.

What’s left is – 6 x 2026MY Ford ‘models’, and 2 x 2025MY Ford ‘models’. One thing in common – they’re all forced induction.

Compliance certification (both EPA Federal and CARB) hinges on the Test Group number – without that can’t compare apples to apples – you can have the same MY, same model, same displacement engine, but different test group numbers.

Even some 2026 F-150's with 3.5L EB will have them - CARB certification (Executive Order) Executive Order: A-010-2633 which notes GPF’s. Then again, some 2026 CARB F-150's with 3.5L might not have GPF’s – why? – because of this CARB certification A-010-2647 which notes no GPF’s. So both are CARB-certified – but only 1 has GPF’s. Caveat Emptor.....

Of interest – no 2026MY General Motors, FCA, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai (all but the 1 mentioned above) with GPF’s. Why did Ford decide to meet/get certified to the 1 mg/mile particulate matter (PM) standard? Who knows, kind of like asking why is Ford’s BMS designed the way it is. Way too many things going on with Ford in the world of regulatory compliance and sales numbers to know all the “whys” – LEV3/LEV4 standards, are they interim or not, what federal test procedures (FTP) or supplemental test procedures (SFTP) used, is it on a phase-in (or alternate phase-in) schedule, is it part of fleet requirements, any offset credits, what % compliance are they at, ad infinitum. That's a rabbit hole that's almost bottomless.

I just traded in my 2024 Lariat hybrid for a 2025 AWD Lariat hybrid with 4K tow, even in AZ I find the my new truck has a GPF. Did I make a terrible mistake, I was wanting the trailer assists with the newer model and the increased towing capacity. When I Google the experiences of European Ford Ecoboost customers, who have been dealing with this issues for years the results are mixed. Most have few issues, but some have experienced increased maintenance and very costly repairs. In short "Did I sign up for a constant maintenance problem?"
Since both the hybrid and EB have the same capacity w 4kTow packages, maybe someone can clarify why anyone buys the EB that gets lower mpg? I would get it if there was a 5 or 6 k tow package on EB? From what I read tow folks are happy w the hybrid for up to 4k but don’t think I have read any reviews or other comparisons between EB and hybrid on towing performance. If no big dif, then the answer to your question is”mistake” question might be “ didn’t select the hybrid”. ?

EB is 250 Horsepower, what's the Hybrid? 192? not the same capacity

The 4K Tow package is new on the 2025 Hybrid I believe? Does not include the larger radiator that the proven EB 4K Tow Package has. No mileage data on the new Hybrid 4K Tow to be found yet either?

I was going to purchase mine about this time of year hoping for an end of year discount, but I heard this was coming so I bought it earlier. I would not worry if I had one though, you will most likely not know it is there or notice any difference in performance. Enjoy your new truck!

If so, Yet another reason to choose hybrid

you need to read everything. I know it's hard. But because elections have consequences, when Trump won Ford stopped installing them, because Trump stopped the new rules. Like I said mt 2025 That I took delivery on in later sept from a dealer in Birmingham Al. does not have one. I am not ford so I do not know the extent of the stoppage.

Several sites have below info (see link) that indicates both upgrades on transmission cooling and cooling system /radiator for 4k on hybrid- however ford authority seems to indicate that the radiator gets a better fan “ and doesn’t mention radiator itself. Do like many things details matter and art somewhat grey on that point. Same article does indicate the EB 8 speed transmission gets a small mod w 4k- the hybrid has enhanced e-cvt w 4k. The GRoss weight capacity is actually slightly higher on the hybrid. The turbo on the EB might make some dif but is not described . W/o further detail I can only conclude they are as equivalent as Ford could make them .

From what I know of what kills DPFs quicker, if you bought an EB for it's strengths, longer periods of higher than city speed driving, then you won't even notice it maintenance wise.

If you bought it because it was cheaper than a hybrid, and thought you wouldn't drive it enough to save the gas difference, and only do short and city speed trips, well, you're just going to have to train yourself to do a half hour highway speed burn a couple of times a month to regen the thing.

I was actually looking at mid-late teen German diesel SUVs as a possible vehicle, due to 30mpg and decent towing, BUT learning of their need to go on a bahnstorm every so often to keep the DPF alive soured me on the idea.

Found this from Mr. A.I. himself! I do remember reading it somewhere else a while back, may have been on our forum?

Yes, the 2026 Ford Maverick's available 4K Tow Package includes a higher-capacity radiator, but this upgrade is specifically for the 2.0L EcoBoost gas engine, not the 2.5L Hybrid model. The Hybrid with the tow package gets an Auxiliary Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler instead of the radiator upgrade, along with a stronger fan and tow mode, to handle towing demands.
Here's the breakdown for the Hybrid with the 4K Tow Package (53Q):
  • Cooling Upgrade: Ford's towing guide and other sources confirm an Auxiliary Auto Trans Oil Cooler for the 2.5L Hybrid.
  • Other Components: It also adds a Class III Hitch, upgraded fan, 7-pin connector, and Trailer Brake Controller.
Why the difference?
The EcoBoost gas engine needs more robust cooling for its higher power output when towing, hence the bigger radiator; the Hybrid uses its electric motor to assist, so an oil cooler for the eCVT is sufficient, along with the fan upgrade.

I purchased my 2025 EcoBoost in October. Built in September 2025. No GPF.
