Wondering if anyone updated their suspension to maintain ride height, but improve the handling of the truck? I posted in the other Steeda sway bar thread, but got me thinking if there's a way to get a better / firmer / more planted feel at the stock ride height with a swap of the suspension bits.

While I love the truck and look of it lowered, I feel like I would like to keep the same ride height...but just make it better / firmer / sportier / more planted.

Thanks!

Aside from the softer Tremor ride, all the other Maverick models come with pretty stiff suspension. If you want it even harder, maybe you should just install some steel bars instead of shocks.

2 responses...one recommends Tremor for stiffness...and other says Tremor is too soft...

I'm so confused...

I'm not sure if anyone makes springs to maintain the stock height, with a firmer ride. You could always look at the H&R sport springs, they don't lower the Maverick as much as the super sport springs. Another option might be the Lobo springs? I have the Goodwin Racing springs on mine.
I love the improvement to the handling with only a slightly firmer ride.

Thanks for the input! I may just bite the bullet and drop it a few inches...still taller than any other vehicle I've had in 30+ years of driving even with a 2" drop.

For what it's worth, I tried the H&R Super Sport springs and didn't care for the ride, which might be fixed by adding longer sway bar end links. By the time I heard about that fix, I had already moved onto the Goodwin springs. I'm not sure how their sport springs ride. I've heard good things about the second version of Eibach springs. The Goodwin Racing springs are very similar to the Eibach springs. They also make a lifted spring that sounds like it keeps the handling close to stock, not all loose feeling.

I tried the Eibach springs to gain some handling improvement, but immediately went back to the stockers. Did it steer a little better? Yes. Was it worth the loss in ride comfort on GTA streets? No. Unless you often hit more fun roads than Toronto has the stock combo is likely a good compromise.

Cheers.

Good point! The roads are pretty garbage here, and the fun roads are for the motorcycle during summer / warmer times of the year.

Thanks for chiming in. I'll keep looking and decide on whether it's worth dropping it or not just for the sportier ride (I came from WRX/Si/GTi backgrounds) and I've always preferred a firmer ride when possible...but needed the space / utility of the Mav.

Oh yeah, some sweet riding a little way north! Just found Kushog Lk. Rd. (11) near Carnarvon. Freshly paved, most fun road I can remember being on. :D

Our Mazda 3 steers better than the Mav, but I'm not sure I like it more overall.

Cheers.

I have a tremor and a hybrid and the tremor by far is softer and more pliable feeling.

Bilstein B8 struts and shocks. Don't mess with changing springs.

I recently went to a wedding in Arkansas (from MA) and rented, thru TURO, a Mini Cooper S. Though fun to drive for a short time I had it, I think I would get pretty tired of the taught suspension in it after a while. Truck rides much better (more comfortable) than the Mini. Can't imagine driving it on the roads here in New England with all the winter frost heaves. LOL

Get a custom set of springs made. A good spring shop can get yours measure the rates etc and adjust accordingly. There is a spring shop in St. John's NL that does this, I am sure there are some around T.O. that does.
