Swapping out speakers I started putting cheap Amazon sound deadening mat where I could on the front door.

I really didnt want to mess with taking off the black plastic that holds the window motor so I just my put my hand through the hole of the speaker mount.

What you are doing will absolutely make a difference, without futzing with the black panel. Just went through that a while back. :D

Very important to roll that stuff with a pressure roller so it is fully adhered. The manufacturers put those little bumps (in Amazon's case, hexagons) so you can tell what's been rolled and what hasn't.

I did the same with Amazon product thru door speaker hole last week. I was able to get more area covered than expected. Very happy with the results.

I have done inside the doors, fenders, under the the carpet and rear seat storage bin, and the roof with the aluminum butyl sound deadener.
I also added deadening foam to the backside of the door panels, under the storage bin, the roof and the back of the cab.
The difference is way better than I expected.

Oh great, another project for me. I haven't noticed any noise annoyance, but that doesn't mean I won't try this. Thank you for sharing. Great work.

That's pretty crafty to add it to the Mav. I used a similar product on the underside of my plactic Honda UTV roof to cut some of the "cab noise" down. It was noticeably quieter after the install.

I removed the front seats, the door sill, foot well panels and the rear storage bin.
I lifted the carpet towards the center console and held it up with a piece of 2×3.

rear storage bin < did you have to remove the rear seat to get this out?

No. I removed the trim panels at the doors and popped the bin halves out.
Under the bin and behind the rear seat was one of the first areas I did.
It made a noticeable difference.
The bin is essentially a drum.
I used the aluminum butyl first the covered it with 4mm deadening foam. I also put some foam on the outside of the bin.

Make sure to decouple the plastic panels. 3M Thinsulate works great which also doubles as a sound absorber. Or any sort of foam with adhesive also works. Adding CLD to the backside of plastic panels also reduces the tendency of the panel to rattle.

That Thinsulate looks good - but pricy.

I was wondering about what my 2005 Toyota RAV4 has on the door panels.
Trying to find pictures - appears like not too tightly pressed felt.

Mine is fuller coverage than this later year.

Requires being on the dry side obviously.
Does the Mav not have space for something thicker, or it actually works better with attaching that other material to metal surface?
