Ecoboost oil, 5W-30 or 0-W30?

I am about to do my first oil change, and overthinking what to put in. Recommended is 5W-30 but an alternative is 0W-30 in cold climates like mine, where the temp can go below -20. The chart shows 0W-30 can be used in any temperature, I am wondering why it isn't the default recommended oil. I am suspecting it is to protect the turbo in hot operating conditions?

the most important thing to do to protect your engine( block heaters work great) is to disable the automatic engine shut off when at a stop a good gearhead can accomplish this with a laptop,i dont think i would even use the 0 weight,this engine stop feature gives your engine too many zero oil pressure starts GM has learned a hard lesson on the 0 weight oils and these zero oil pressure starts cant be that great on turbo bearings,check and see what Honda uses,their policies seem to work well on close tolerance engines.

Look at your fill cap. 5w30. Why would you use anything else? It still amazes me how many times this topic comes up.

My big beef is not the weight of the oil, but the quality of the many different brands. The many oil sample analysis reveals some questions of the oil performances, and meeting their own published specifications. Doesn’t matter if blended or full synthetic. I used, sampled both types after few miles of use.

I used, sampled both types after few miles of use.
I’m not going to claim to be an oil expert but I have used Mobil 1 my entire life and I have never had a engine problem.

Does MB1 ESP meet WSS-M2C961-A1?
Technically, no, it does not.

Since it is a European spec oil, it is classified under ACEA (Euro) specs. You can research that if you like, but generally, it's understood the ACEA spec's will cross reference NA (API, ILSAC specs.)to a certain degree.

Everyone should do their own research on this before considering a switch. Plus my Maverick is out of the OEM warranty, so I don't have to consider that any more.

tinkeritis some of these folks pour mothballs and different junk in their gas tanks and add unnecessary oil additives (except for gm v8s use the thicker oil).one thing that caused confusion in years gone by was viscosity the old timers liked "green top quakerstate-turned to sludge in 50 miles) they thought lighter bodied oils didn't lubricate as well.maybe so back in 1-16th in clearance components, had a little resistance from a fellow who was using 10-40w in his wife's Honda car( a no-no) and used it in the fleet,the new mechanic finally convinced the boss to use 5w-30 in the older Chevy trucks( nary a problem)

The only reason manufacturers are recommending lower viscosity oils, is simply because lower weight oils require less horsepower to run through the system. Less horsepower means lower fuel consumption. Lower fuel consumption means less emissions. I don’t care if the manufacturer says use 0W 20. I wouldn’t use anything less than 5W30. Look up rat540 oil forum for complete testing of over 100 different oils. Pennzoil Full Synthetic and Quaker State full synthetic were at the top of the list. I know years ago I would never use Pennzoil or quaker state. But technology has changed and so have oils.
