Back in April we bought a 2024 XLT hybrid. We love it. 45 plus MPG, under 30K, what's not to love. I was looking for something to make quick trips to the hardware store, run for gardening supplies and haul my 2 labs. You know all the stuff where my full sized Ram was too much and my wife minivan would get trashed. I also needed space for the grandkids while doing all that. It was between the Subaru Forester hybrid and the Maverick. Came down to wanting a little truck over an SUV.

I knew about the recalls and was careful in making sure that all recalls were done on the truck we bought. However there are a few things I did not know and wish I had before pulling the trigger.

First I am retired and only drive around 5K to 6K miles a year. Which brings up my first wish:

Parasitic drain and the killing of the 12v battery especially if you don't drive it often. Since I do not drive much, this could be a big problem. It can be a real hassle to get it fixed.

Next wish was knowing that the CV joints could go out at 30K miles. Now this is pretty troubling. As little as I drive, my truck will be well out of warranty by the time I hit 30K. So I hope there is a recall on this.

I Chose the 2024 XLT since I did not like the 2025 grill and want/need real buttons for the radio and climate control. I liked the features of the lariat, but could not afford the price, so the XLT was it.

Which brings me to my third wish: Knowing that the 2025s may have AGM batteries and updated CV axels so those problems could be avoided.

Now would I have done anything different? Probably not. For me I really hate have all the controls on the touch screen so the 24 was the way to go.

Don't get me wrong. I have zero regrets and love the truck more every day. I do find excuses to drive it so I may exceed my milage estimate.

What things, if any, do you wish you knew about the maverick before purchase?

Nothing. I spent way too much time on here while waiting for my truck. Everything was already known. My girlfriend at the time hated it with a passion. 😂

Well Grandpa,
You already hit on what I wish I knew before purchasing my Maverick. It’s so damn fun to drive that I find myself making excuses to take it for a ride.
- I no longer go to the local bar. I drive to the next town North.
- I drive to the next town East just to get a burger and 50 miles to get bbq.
- I go to the car wash way too often now.
I’m burning substantially more gas than I should be just because it’s fun to drive. My old 3/4 ton Dodge rarely gets driven and looks like it has a sad face as it sits in the street not being used.
Curse you Ford, you wily bastards.

Yep....hit the nail on the head and drove it in. My F-250 is PISSED at me. Only goes to work with me on Friday. Seems like the last time it got diesel was mid July...LOL. Like you...the thing I wish I knew before purchase was how much Gosh darn fun this thing is to drive...while drastically cutting my diesel and gas monthly card statement. My kids even want to take it sometimes instead of their own cars. Ford hit a home run....with both the Hybrid and the Eco. :like::like::like:

My Ram 1500 knows how your f-250 feels! It is now relegated to dump runs and hauling dirt.

We only drive about 6000 miles a year and dropping a new AGM battery killed all of the battery issues immediately just drop 150 bucks on it and end your worries

I also have a ram to tow our camper, we use the maverick to also tow the boat along when we camp. I also have a minivan so my stepdaughters dog doesn't trash the ram or maverick. Our 3 year old ecoboost has been trouble free at 32,000 miles. I do wish the center armrest stuck out a bit farther, and the box was about an inch or two deeper.

Maybe I can offer a little help. I had a 23' Hybrid, XLT. I wanted the Hybrid AWD, so I ordered one when they opened the order banks. My son had a 22' EB AWD, and wanted the MPG of the hybrid, so he sold his EB, and bought my 23' Hybrid. He has a company van for work, so his MAverick doesn't get driven much. We bought a NOCO Genius2D battery tender from Amazon. It mounts right in the engine bay, we connected it to the Jump-start post, and a ground lug. He just plugs it in to keep his battery up. Yeah it's an extra step when you go to leave, or park, but it's a fairly simple solution and only cost about $40. We tuck the cord under the hood by the wiper on the driver's side, so access is easy.

I also have one of these in each my Silverado, (now it only gets used to tow our Camper for the most part), and my wife's 01' Miata, (Nice weather only car, she has a 23' Rav4 Hybrid for everyday). They work great!

I do wish my 25' had the actual buttons for the HVAC for sure!!!

I can't think of anything as I did a lot of research. I admit I drive it more than any other vehicle I have ever owned. I averaged about 5600 miles a year on my cars. One time I put on like 6800 and that was the most I have ever driven in one year of ownership of a vehicle. However, in my first year of the Maverick I put over 11000 miles on it.

After reading your "wish I knew" list, let me lessen your worries. I drive less then you (under4K a year) I still have my original non AGM battery going on 4 years. My trucks is in sleep mode a lot, again like me, but always starts. The CV axels now have a 10 year 150K mile warranty, so no worry there. Ford has our backs, with recalls to fix problem that may arise with something no other company produces. As the song goes, "DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY'

I got my 2025 AWD Hybrid in January, already has over 20k on it! LOL My commute is 100+ miles per day, and the Maverick has taken 2 trips from MD to ND and back already!

Thanks. Even if I knew of these 2 issues I still would have bought my Mav. It is just a blast to drive. I used to commute 65 miles one way to work. I drove a Mazda 3. Great little car. Emphasis on Little. The Mav gets much better millage, drives better and is a lot more comfortable. Wish I had it when I was commuting. However they did not exist back then! My oldest daughter is thinking of buying one for her commute. I would feel better with her and my grandkids in a Mav instead of a little econobox.

I wish I knew the cruise control was not adaptive. Whoever heard of it NOT being adaptive!?
Wish I had known not to leave FOB inside hybrid vehicle. My Prius 12V drained and I just found out why!
Wish I knew I had to pay $57 for an owners manual in print.
