Oil life at 51% at 6,030 miles.

My first oil change was at 3,000 miles with a switch to Motorcraft Full Syn.
Now at 9,030 I’m at 51% on the oil life monitor.
So per the oil life monitor my Oil is ok out to 12,000 miles.

I drive briskly, strong and fast.
I guess Italian tune ups work.

There isn't a single Ford technician that would recommend 10000 mile oil changes. Prepare yourself for clogged Turbo inlet screens and Turbo failure.

Ford/GM/many others – to my knowledge their OLM systems are strictly algorithm-based. Different companies, different things measured/calculations made. Engine temp, ambient temp, driving style, engine load, engine hours, idle hours, engine revolutions, number of engine starts, mileage from last OLM reset, time from last OLMreset. And probably others.

I don’t drive my vehicles much (~5k or less miles/yr each?), my OCI’s are basically time/convenience-based. Do an OCI at least once a year whether I need it or not. What day is good schedule/weather-wise for my DIY change, my Mobil1 EP on sale at WallyWorld, etc. Don’t do Blackstone-type oil analysis because in my case don’t require it. During the year, to make sure nothing amiss, periodically (every ~2 weeks or so) pull and check the dipstick for level/oil color. When driving watch my oil pressure gauge for any ‘anomalies’. Show a passing interest in what my OLM says I have in the way of remaining oil life but pay less attention to it than I do to physical checks and actual miles driven.

Believe that Mercedes and BMW’s (and Lexus?) do utilize actual oil condition sensors (measuring electrical conductivity, viscosity, contamination levels, sometimes even moisture content and acidity levels in the oil). Fords don't use these - If I’m wrong someone please give me a Ford part number (for any model) for any such sensor directly measuring oil quality. Ford’s still have dipsticks (thank god), if you have a car/truck without one then you’ve also got some sort of ‘oil level sensor’ (different than the check engine/oil can picture when you’re seriously low on oil/oil pressure).

And then there’s the FordPass app stuff. Found it mildly interesting that you need to have driven 150 trips to get estimated due date/distance remaining to have the Ford nanny remind you to get an oil/filter change. Not a fan of this (have something similar in my ’24 Silverado), but it is what it is.

My full syn full services are $79 and every fifth one is free. Works out to about $63 per service.

I do 5K intervals but at 3K this time to get it on full syn and the factory oil load out.
I am just too busy right now. Its only at 6,000 on this oil. I’ll get’er done by 7,000 this time then at 10k, 15K, etc.

Under an extended warranty til 100K anyway.
I’ll trade up right before that runs out.
Not concerned with the turbo filters now that I’m on full syn. I’ll change them out at 50K and have a look see at the old ones then.

I always use a visual oil color inspection. When it starts to get slightly dark it is time. When that honey color fades. I’ll use miles travelled si ne last change as a backup, but never go as long as suggested mileage intervals in owners manual. Always full synthetic.

I’d not use that method, my full syn got noticeably darker at 2,000 miles.
Took a Toyota 4 banger to 528,000 trouble free miles with 10,000 mile full syn oil change intervals,
The Mobil 1 was always turning dark at about 2,000 miles, honey color gone.

You cannot use a visual inspection to see the condition if oil especially in a turbo motor.
Oil is good until the oil additive package is depleted and it cannot be seen.

Btw guys, Showing 51% oil life at 6,030 miles shows I’m driving it right and am not in heavy city traffic or overworking the truck or driving it in harsh or commercial conditions.

Cherokee- you just changed your oil initially way too early. You’re driving a machine built for the second decade of the 21st Century not the 1980s. Watch the oil life indicator when it gets under 20%- change at about 15%.

Oh boy. You are going to piss off a lot of people on this forum with your accurate logic and science. Averaging oil change interval around here is about 2500 miles. Now don’t get started on the ptu oil

Funny how the 1980’s had far far fewer engine related recalls & problems compared to today.

I would also monitor the dipstick and use a tire gauge back then. Still do of course.

I pay no attention to the OLM. I reset my trip when I do an oil change and change it at 5k. Running an oil change close to 10k is overkill to me. Change it myself, cost about 60 bucks.

I don't care what the oil monitor says don't trust it, I do my first oil change at 2k than every 5k after that. If you're keeping your vehicle long term don't follow Fords recommendation .
